  • Patent number: 10753188
Abstract: A method for thermal recovery of hydrocarbon housed in a reservoir comprising injecting a mixture comprising either hydrocarbon and water (for downhole heating) or hydrocarbon and steam (heated at surface) into a wellbore and circulating the heated mixture of hydrocarbon and steam inside the wellbore allowing the heated mixture to increase the temperature of the reservoir and thereby reduce the viscosity of the hydrocarbon within the reservoir. The injection of steam facilitates the delivery of more heat to the reservoir due to the latent heat of steam, compared with circulating heated hydrocarbon alone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 17, 2017
Date of Patent: August 25, 2020
    Assignee: Husky Oil Operations Limited
    Inventor: Gokhan Coskuner

  • Patent number: 8746334
Abstract: A post cold heavy oil production with sand (“CHOPS”) microbial enhanced oil recovery method comprises selecting a well having at least one wormhole and that has completed primary CHOPS production. When the reservoir does not contain enough of a gas producing indigenous microbe, an injectant is prepared comprising a gas-producing microbe, a nutrient suitable for the microbe, and a fluid base. The injectant is injected through the well and into the at least one wormhole in the reservoir; the well is shut in until pressure in the well reaches the target pressure; and then the well is produced.

  • Patent number: 8327936
Abstract: A method of recovering oil from an oil sands reservoir comprises first applying cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) to a series of generally horizontally extending wells in the reservoir; then applying steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) to at least one vertically-spaced well pair in which one well in each well pair is part of the series of wells to which CSS was applied, while producing oil from at least one single well in the series of wells. In this case, each single well is adjacent to and offset from at least one of the well pairs. The method can then further comprise applying a SAGD blowdown to an injector well of each well pair and producing oil from a producer well of each well pair and from the single well to economic limit.
