Abstract: A flame retardant resin composition comprising a polyester; wherein the polyester comprises from about 1 to about 15 mole percent of an unsaturated diol; a flame retardant compound, an organic compound comprising of at least one carboxyl reactive group. The composition possesses good stability and mechanical property. Also disclosed is a process to prepare these compositions and articles therefrom.

Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition is disclosed which includes: structural units derived at least one substituted or unsubstituted polycarbonate, and a polyester comprising structural units derived from at least greater than 40 mole percent of xylene glycol, such that the composition is miscible. Also disclosed is a process of making said thermoplastic compositions and articles derived from said composition. The composition disclosed possess good optical properties, thermal properties and stability.

Abstract: An ignition resistant thermoplastic composition comprising: (a) structural units derived at least one substituted or unsubstituted polycarbonate; (b) a polyester comprising structural units is derived from xylene glycol; (c) 1 weight percent to about 40 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a flame retardant compound is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method of making said thermoplastic compositions and articles derived from said composition.

Abstract: Methods for purifying a p,p-bisphenol A generally include distilling a feed stream comprising p,p-BPA in a distillation column at a pressure less than or equal to 20 millibars. The distillation column separates the bisphenol feed stream to produce a light fraction, an intermediate fraction and a heavy fraction. The intermediate fraction comprising the purified bisphenol contains lesser impurities that the p,p-BPA in the feed stream. In one embodiment, the intermediate stream is recovered using a side-draw. The side-draw is located between a first zone and a third zone in the distillation column.
