  • Publication number: 20190165606
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for determining the efficiency of a smart appliance in a smart grid network and providing feedback based on the efficiencies of similar smart appliances in the smart grid network. The system includes a central controller in digital communication with a network component of a smart grid and smart appliances in the smart grid network. The smart appliances are associated with ADLs. An energy consumption measurement is calculated for the smart appliances for each ADL. A notification is transmitted from the central controller to a smart appliance or to the owner of the smart appliance indicating to repair or replace the smart appliance when the energy consumption measurement is below an inefficiency threshold. The energy consumption measurement is determined based on data such as appliance meta data, smart meter data, a user profile, user demographics, a user specific ADL schedule, and historical data.

  • Patent number: 10306303
Abstract: Delivery of audio content is tailored to individual users. A viewing direction of a user to a display presenting a video stream showing a scene of an environment is determined. A physical location, in the environment, that the user is viewing in the scene is determined, and an audio stream, of several audio streams obtained from different physical locations in the environment, is identified that correlates to the determined physical location that the user is viewing. The identified audio stream is then provided to the user. Additional aspects include identifying potentially interesting areas from which audio streams are obtained and selectively triggered by users for provision to the users. Further aspects include an ability for a user to identify for other users a particular area that the user views to obtain interesting audio, informing the other users that the user is listening to interesting audio associated with that particular area.

  • Patent number: 10296097
Abstract: Control of a computer system using epidermal electronic devices. Movement of a first epidermal electronic device (EED) relative to a second EED is detected based on electronic signals of the first and second EEDs, the first EED being associated with a first portion of a user's body and the second EED being associated with a second portion of the user's body. Movement of the first portion of the user's body relative to the second portion of the user's body is determine based on the detected movement of the first EED relative to the second EED. A computer-recognizable input event correlated to the determined movement is identified, and a computer function associated with the computer-recognizable input event is performed.

  • Patent number: 10241534
Abstract: Models of a distribution network grid are automatically updated in response to real-time location data of uniquely identified temporary devices. Current geographical coordinates are determined within a distance tolerance that is selected as a function of a type of device indicated by the identity indicia. The geographical information system model is updated with a location of a unique identity of the device at the determined current geographical coordinates within the distance tolerance if unique identity of the device not already present within the geographical information system model, or if it is present and a displacement distance from the determined current geographical coordinates of the temporary device to existing geographic coordinates that are stored in the geographical information system model in association with the unique device identity exceeds a specified distance margin.

  • Publication number: 20190050245
Abstract: Managing execution of a job in a computing environment. A method establishes, for a job to be executed in the computing environment, an execution plan for processing the job. The execution plan identifies computationally intensive tasks of the job and data intensive tasks of the job. The method selects a virtual machine of the computing environment to process the identified computationally intensive tasks of the job and identified data intensive tasks of the job. The method assigns the identified computationally intensive tasks of the job for foreground processing of the virtual machine and assigns the identified data intensive tasks of the job for background processing of the virtual machine. Execution of the job executes the identified computationally intensive tasks of the job in foreground processing of the virtual machine and executes the identified data intensive tasks of the job in background processing of the virtual machine.

  • Patent number: 10172222
Abstract: A method and system for automatically determining a utility light malfunction is provided. The method includes receiving, from a first hardware device, luminance data specifying current luminance levels associated with utility light apparatuses. Location data specifying a geographical location for each utility light apparatus is retrieved and the luminance data and location data are analyzed with respect to historical luminance data and historical location data associated with the utility light apparatuses. The analysis results in determining that a group of utility light apparatuses include first current luminance levels differing from previous luminance levels of the group. A list and associated map specifying a group of geographical locations associated with the group is generated. A control signal enabling control of a vehicle is transmitted to the vehicle and associated video data is retrieved via the vehicle during travel in accordance with the map.
