  • Patent number: 6630044
Abstract: A method of applying a tread (3) to a tire casing (1) wherein a prevulcanized tread (3) is applied to the tire casing (1) via an intermediate layer of non-vulcanized rubber binder (2), and wherein the layer of rubber binder (2) is heated by supplying current to the layer through an electrically conductive wire (4). The wire used in accordance with the invention comprises a multiple of wires or strands (4a). The invention also relates specifically to such a multiwire element.

  • Patent number: 4536242
Abstract: A method and apparatus for retreading vehicle tires. A carcass is provided with a prevulcanized tread and an unvulcanized tie-gum layer between the carcass and tread. A microwave applicator is located above the tread to emit microwaves against the tire for generating heat energy in the tire whereby the tie-gum layer is vulcanized. Vulcanization of the edges of the tie-gum layer is facilitated by local heating at or in connection with said edges by heat generation outside of the tire. The heating can be effected either by utilizing a material with a high dissipation factor for microwave energy or, alternatively, by use of electric resistance wires.

  • Patent number: 4401873
Abstract: A device for microwave heating, including a wave guide, in which a material is intended to be heated, and a microwave source connected to the wave guide. The wave guide includes a portion wherein its cross-sectional area decreases continuously from the end of that portion located closest to the microwave source to the other end of the portion part, and along that portion the wave guide includes a portion with a geometry, at which fed-in microwave energy no longer can propagate in the wave guide, i.e., the wave guide proceeds continuously to so-called cut off at a certain distance from the narrower end of the part.

  • Patent number: 3999026
Abstract: A heating device has a resonator divided into at least two parallel chambers by a separating wall. The separating wall is connected to a microwave energy source at at least one point on one edge of said wall whereby a magnetic field is generated along the opposite edge of said separating wall. The corresponding electrical field heats the material desired to be heated. A slot may be provided in the resonator wall above the edge of the separating wall. Two more parallel chambers may be placed above the first two chambers with a corresponding slot parallel to the first slot. The material to be heated may then be placed into the second corresponding slot. The chambers may be provided with cooling elements disposed generally parallel to the separating wall.
