  • Publication number: 20040012113
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for compressing and processing a mat of lignocellulose material into the form of a board are disclosed. The apparatus includes a pair of compression rolls, at least one of which has a perforated shell surface, a channel within that roll for injecting a processing medium into the mat through a restricted sector of the roll, a processing medium supply for the channel including a slide shoe which is sealingly attached to one end of the roll, and the channel includes a number of channels associated with portions of the axial width of the roll so that the processing medium can be supplied through step-wise variable portions of the width of the roll.

  • Patent number: 6517753
Abstract: A method and a device for continuous forming of a mat of particle lignocellulosic material by means of a batching unit (12) with a distribution chamber (15) in connection with the manufacture of board. The material is deposited on a continuous forming web (16), and the width of the mat is controlled by means of laterally movable partition walls (30) in the distribution chamber (15). The main part of the material is deposited on the forming web (16) between the partition walls (30), and the partial amount of the particle material dropping outside the partition walls (30) is diverted by means (32) and discharged separately in the distribution chamber (15) and re-used in the mat forming, in that it is directly placed as a surface layer of the mat by distribution means (35).

  • Patent number: 6464826
Abstract: Method is disclosed for treating wood chips including a heater for preheating the wood chips in the presence of steam, a beater to mechanically process the wood chips into wood fibers, a cyclone for separating the wood fibers from steam and volatile organic substances produced in the beater, a blower line for transporting the wood fibers, steam and volatile organic substances from the beater to the inlet of the cyclone, a drying conduit connected to the lower outlet of the cyclone for carrying wood fibers therefrom, a sluice valve associated with the lower outlet of the cyclone for controlling the removal of the wood fibers from the cyclone, and a processing conduit connected to the upper outlet of the cyclone for the steam and the volatile organic substances whereby the volatile organic substances separated in the cyclone can be separated and heat associated with the steam separated in the cyclone can be recovered.

  • Patent number: 6136239
Abstract: Continuous methods for manufacturing finished board are disclosed which include disintegrating lignocellulose material prior to drying, gluing, and forming into mats, and in which the pressing of the mat into a board includes a first step in which the mat is pressed in the presence of steam in a heating medium to produce a partially pressed board having a substantially uniform density, and a second compressing step in which the outer layers of the partially pressed board are increased in density as compared to the center of the board.

  • Patent number: 6123884
Abstract: Methods for the continuous manufacture of board from lignocellulose-containing material are disclosed including disintegrating the lignocellulose material into particles or fibers, drying, coating with glue, forming the glued board into a mat, heating the mat with steam, compressing the heated mat to a predetermined thickness approximately equal to the final desired thickness of the board, and pressing the compressed mat into the board.
