The laser projection system can include a laser light generator located a first defined distance away from the left projector head and a second defined distance from the right projector head and coupled to the left projector head and the right projector head with fiber optic cables that transmit light from the laser light generator to the left projector head and the right projector head. The alternating electric field simultaneously alters the alignment of directors in the liquid crystal. The viscosity in the liquid crystal is related to the director directions, and the ions are thereby moved in non-closed trajectories. The inventive ion pumping can be further improved using an asymmetric or biased alternating electric field.
