  • Publication number: 20050077268
Abstract: The invention relates to the welding electrode of a resistance welder, comprising a shaft (10) with a welding cap (10) and cooling water pipes (20) disposed inside the shaft (10). A probe is acoustically coupled with the ultrasound probe (14) for transmitting and/or receiving ultrasound signals and is linked with an evaluation device outside the welding electrode via signal lines (24). The probe (14) is disposed inside or in the vicinity of the welding cap (12) and coupled therewith via an elastically deformable pad (16).

  • Publication number: 20030201409
Abstract: A method and a device for measuring wear on the internal surfaces (12) of barrels (1), in particular weapon barrels. For a very precise determination of the wear on the internal surfaces (12) of barrels (1), a non-contacting scanning of the internal surface (12) of the respective barrel (1) to be checked is carried out with a light-spot triangulation sensor (6), to determine the respective distance between the internal surface (12) and the barrel axis (7) for selected sensor positions. The contour of the internal surface (12) of the respective barrel (1) is then determined from the detected distance changes. It has proven advantageous if the measured distance values are displayed on a monitor (23) in the form of a C-image, wherein different distance ranges are characterized with different colors, so that faulty surface areas can immediately be recognized optically.

  • Patent number: 6414260
Abstract: A welding electrode with a configuration (2) for the ultrasound introduction for the testing of weld joints, in particular resistance welded joints, comprises an ultrasound transmitter for the impingement of the welding region with ultrasonic waves and an ultrasound receiver disposed at a spacing from the welding region, for the reception of the ultrasonic waves passed through the welding region. To provide a welding electrode which is simple in structure, which is suitable for an impingement of the welding region with longitudinal ultrasonic waves, the ultrasound transmitter radiates the ultrasonic waves axially into the welding electrode (4) or axially or obliquely into a channel (42) of the welding electrode which is filled with a medium transmitting sound.

  • Patent number: 5454269
Abstract: A method for coupling an ultrasonic probe to a test specimen, whereby a cushion of fluid is formed between the two bodies to facilitate the coupling. In order to optimize the coupling, reduce the quantity of coupling fluid as well as prevent a drain off of the coupling fluid, a vacuum is produced during the attachment of the probe to the test specimen at the end of the probe facing the surface of the test specimen. Coupling fluid is drawn by the vacuum into the gap between the probe and the specimen to form a fluid cushion. The device for coupling the probe to the test specimen is equipped with a guiding and retaining housing for the probe through which the fluid may be supplied to the gap between the two bodies in order to form the cushion of fluid. The gap between the two bodies is connected through channels in the housing to a vacuum source and a container for the coupling fluid.

  • Patent number: 5359895
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for the ultrasonic testing of welds between plastic packaging like food trays and cover foils. The welded joint between the tray and cover foil is periodically exposed to pulses of ultrasonic radiation. The pulses pass through the weld and are picked up or received by a receiver. The amplitude of the received pulses is evaluated. The cross-section of the beam of ultrasonic radiation is so small that the radiation only passes through the weld itself. The packages and the ultrasonic tester are moved relative to each other in order to examine the whole circuit of the weld. The pulse rate is such that the weld areas covered by successive pulses overlap.
