  • Patent number: 4618545
Abstract: A sealed lead acid recombination electric storage cell comprises a container containing alternating positive and negative plates separated by separators. Each separator includes reinforcing means extending over substantially its entire area and constructed to define a plurality of apertures and being surrounded by microfine glass fibre material. The plates and separators are under a compressive force and the reinforcing members are so constructed and arranged that the major proportion of the compressive force is transmitted through the reinforcing members while the major proportion of the area of the plates is contacted by the glass fibre material.

  • Patent number: 4245013
Abstract: A synthetic pulp separator for a lead acid battery, the separator having two or more plies and a ribbed profile the surface adapted to face the positive having a higher content of synthetic pulp than the other surface.

  • Patent number: 4137376
Abstract: A battery formed of sodium sulphur cells has each cell coated with an intumescent paint which is heated to produce a carbonaceous foam. This foam fills an outer housing around the cells or a separate containment around each cell and serves to confine material that might leak out of any damaged cell.

  • Patent number: 4040818
Abstract: An additive for a ferrous melt to remove sulphur comprises agglomerates of a mixture of from 15 to 50% by weight of magnesium, 1 to 10% by weight of calcium fluoride and a refractory material to form a metal-permeable matrix when subjected to the temperature of a ferrous melt. The agglomerates may contain a binder and be formed into briquettes. The additive may be introduced into the melt by plunging.
