  • Patent number: 8758730
Abstract: The present invention provides the use of surface active proteins, especially class I and class II hydrophobins, in topically applied pharmaceutical formulations. The invention is particularly directed to topically applied pharmaceutical products for enhancing the penetration to achieve a transungual delivery of a prophylactically and/or therapeutically effective amount of an active ingredient (drug) to a patient (including animals and humans) into and/or through a nail, of the animal or human body, in order to treat one or more of a variety of diseases or disorders. Related embodiments of the invention are also disclosed.

Assignee: B.R.A.I.N. Biotechnology Research and Information Network AG
Inventors: Andreas Buthe, Andreas Hafner, Franz Kaufmann, Babette Fiedler, Guido Meurer, Gordon Bradley
  • Patent number: 8226967
Abstract: The invention relates to a use of surface active hydrophobins for applications in pharmaceutical technology, in particular as excipients for galenic use. Provided is a method for either admixture of hydrophobins to galenic compositions or for treating the surface of pharmaceutical forms with a hydrophobin-containing solution to modify the pharmaceutical properties of the galenic form. In a preferred embodiment of the invention hydrophobins are used to improve the properties of a pharmaceutical composition, e.g. to act as a surfactant or to increase resistance to disintegration of the galenic forms to achieve a retarded drug release. The galenic form to be modified by the use of surface active proteins as excipients can be capsules, tablets, pills, microparticles, vesicles, and suppositories, although further galenic forms are envisioned.

  • Publication number: 20110017981
Abstract: A convenient way for preparing thin layers of organic semiconducting materials comprises application or deposition of particles of a semiconducting material containing an organic semiconductor on a suitable surface, and converting these particles into a semiconducting layer on a substrate by application of pressure and optionally elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 7549744
Abstract: Apparatus and method for testing the visual response of a patient is disclosed. The apparatus comprises image generation means (16), image presentation means (12), and detection means (13,14). The image generation means (16) and image presentation means (12) are arranged, in use, to generate and present an image before an eye of the patient at variable predetermined intensity levels. The detection means (13,14) is arranged under the control of a controller (11) to detect a stimulus response to the presented image occurring in the brain of the patient and to display an image of the response of the patient's eye on a monitor (15).

  • Patent number: 7343399
Abstract: DNS in its native form cannot identify a good or best server. Traditional Service Providers deploy a centralised approach to global traffic management based on enhancements to DNS, but do have the capability to augment this with edge-based server selection because they do not own/operate an edge network. Their resolution of DNS requests is typically restricted to identifying candidate servers within an edge domain rather than selecting the “best” server. The invention proposes a method of handling Internet resource requests whereby a local lookup server receiving a request searches for a best server able to satisfy the resource request. The local lookup server finds the best server by searching a database for a resource record associated with the best server, and then uses the resource record to retrieve an identifier of a series of executable instructions that are executed to locate the best server.

  • Patent number: 6914968
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and apparatus for detecting and preventing telephone call fraud. The call fraud detector apparatus is connected to the telephone line, and includes a telephone line interface with switch hook. A parallel set detector indicates to the microcontroller that another device has gone off hook on the telephone line. The microcontroller causes the telephone line interface switch hook to also go off hook in parallel, thereby preventing pulse dialing by the other device. The device may also include a DTMF tone detector and generator to prevent DTMF dialing on the telephone line. The call fraud detector can provide a visual, audible, and/or tactile indication when unauthorized use of the telephone line occurs, and can be enabled or disabled by an external device. The call fraud detector can log the time and date of each unauthorized call placed on a line, and can also notify the telephone service provider when an unauthorized call is attempted.
