Publication number: 20100065561Abstract: A multiple chamber package is illustrated which includes two or more containers that are connected by a tear strip in which the tear strip is connected to each of the containers by a tear line. The container can be torn away from the tear strip to thereby provide a smaller package and as such may be more desirable for being carried around in one's pocket or otherwise. By connecting multiple containers together and using a tear strip, a large billboard area is also provided for marketing information to more easily convey information along about the contents of the package to the consumer. The overall package may be formed as a unit, single molded plastic component part with simple as opposed to complex molding techniques.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2009Publication date: March 18, 2010Applicant: J.L. Clark, Inc.Inventors: Joseph P. Valley, III, Gordon E. VerWeyst

Publication number: 20080099546Abstract: A container having a paperboard carton and a plastic closure is provided. The carton has a bottom and a sidewall extending upward toward an open end. A plurality of flaps extend from the sidewall at the open end. Each flap joins to the sidewall at a hinge and depends downwardly from the sidewall over an end portion of the sidewall. The closure has a base portion and inner and outers walls depending downward from the base portion. The base portion and inner and outer walls define a channel therebetween. The channel receives the flaps of the carton. At least one of the inner and outer walls defines a shoulder that engages the flaps to secure the carton to the closure.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Applicant: J.L. Clark, Inc.Inventors: Edward P. Cronin, George Solowiejko, Gordon E. VerWeyst

Publication number: 20080093394Abstract: A serving lid for use with a container having a threaded upper exterior is provided. The serving lid includes a metal lid, a plastic liner, and a metal cap. The metal lid has a skirt, a lid top with a sidewall and convex cover, and a shoulder between the lid top and skirt. The skirt has a curled bottom and the lid top includes a lid dispensing port. The plastic liner has a flange is abutted against the shoulder and a distal end is clamped under the curled end to secure the plastic liner within the metal lid. A threaded interior of the plastic liner mates with the threaded upper exterior neck of the plastic container. The metal cap has a cap dispensing port and is rotatably coupled to the lid top.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2006Publication date: April 24, 2008Applicant: J.L. Clark, Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Peterson, Gregg Hoffman, Gordon E. VerWeyst, George Solowiejko

Patent number: 6299033Abstract: A snap-on closure prevents flaps from coming unsnapped or popping open during assembly of the closure onto the neck of a container. The snap-on connection between the container and the closure includes a circular groove and a circular rib projecting into the groove. The closure includes dispensing ports such as sifter holes, a pouring hole, and/or a spooning hole which are closed by hinged flaps which snap-on the horizontal platform of the closure. The flaps may include plugs which project into their respective dispensing openings and provide a seal against the wall of the opening. The closure also includes a resilient crush seal which engages the neck of the container to provide a seal between the closure and the container.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: J. L. Clark, Inc.Inventors: Gordon E. VerWeyst, Alfred I. Gray

Patent number: 5829583Abstract: A low profile container for packaging a compact disc (CD) and a 3.5" floppy disc. The container has separable container top and bottom. The container bottom has a dish with a depth greater than the combined thickness of the CD and the floppy disc and two separate levels for receiving respectively the CD and the floppy disc. In one embodiment, the dish has a circular depression for receiving the optical disc, and four notches on the wall of the circular depression for receiving the four corners of the floppy disc.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: J.L. Clark, Inc.Inventors: Gordon E. VerWeyst, Walter P. Pietruch

Patent number: 5139181Abstract: A fitment made of plastic and adapted to be telescoped over the neck of a jar to facilitate dispensing of the contents of the jar. The fitment includes a top wall having a spoon or pour opening adapted to be selectively closed by a flap which is hinged to the top wall to swing between closed and open positions, the flap being formed with sift holes to allow the contents to be sifted from the jar when the flap is closed. The lower sides of the top wall and the flap are flat and, when the flap is closed, lie in a common plane so as to define a flat and planar surface for supporting and backing a paper-like disc for initially sealing the jar. A circumferentially continuous skirt depends from the top wall and engages a bead on the neck of the jar to hold the fitment on the jar. When the flap is closed, a lift tab on the flap fits into a notch in the top wall and overlies an arcuate section of the skirt.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: J. L. Clarke, Inc.Inventor: Gordon E. VerWeyst

Patent number: 4898292Abstract: A flap is hinged on a container closure to swing between open and closed positions relative to a dispensing opening in the closure. When the flap is closed, upstanding ribs shield the free edge of the flap. A lift tab projects outwardly from the free edge of the flap and extends between the ribs to facilitate swinging of the flap to its open position. The flap is held releasably in its closed position by virtue of the ends of the ribs engaging the side edges of the tab with a snap fit and also by virtue of straight sections of the ribs engaging straight sections on the free edge of the flap with a snap fit at areas located adjacent the tab.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1989Date of Patent: February 6, 1990Assignee: J.
