  • Patent number: 4796742
Abstract: A drive pulley with a clutching device to engage or disengage a driven member, coupled with a flexible device to allow for axial, lateral, angular and end float errors. A drive pin assembly, including a spring-forced ball lock for securing a slide ring in an engaged or disengaged position with the driven pulley.

  • Patent number: 4796530
Abstract: In a drive for the fluid distributing roller of a printing press, the roller, in addition to rotating about its axis, is required to be axially reciprocated. The distributing roller is mounted upon a drive shaft with which it rotates but with respect to which it can be axially reciprocated. A cam is connected to the shaft and is gear-rotated therewith, and through a cam follower, the shaft of the cylinder, while being rotated, is caused to axially reciprocate by the presence of a cam follower operating in the rotating cam.

  • Patent number: 4793584
Abstract: A modular constructed supporting frame having a specific constructional shape affording interchangeability, such that the frame may be converted to a base unit, stacking unit, or a floor line unit, adapted to be combined with a modular rollstand frame into a floor unit. The modular frame includes a cavity cast pedestal, providing stacking convenience between modular frames while permitting internal access for repairing or replacement of operating units supported by the frame.

  • Patent number: 4782752
Abstract: A control device for circumferentially adjusting a plate cylinder of a printing press which is driven by a helical drive gear which drives a cooperating driven helical gear. The driven helical gear is rotatively coupled to one journal of the plate cylinder but is attached by lateral splines which permit lateral movement of the driven gear with respect to the journal and vice versa. Adjustment means are provided for laterally moving the driven helical gear with respect to the helical drive gear some distance either way from a coplaner relationship, thus changing the phase of the plate cylinder. Lateral adjustment of the plate cylinder is achieved by laterally adjusting the other journal of the plate cylinder during which adjustment the first journal moves laterally with respect to the driven gear due to the lateral spline attachment and does not effect the circumferential adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4337700
Abstract: A blanket cylinder having a longitudinal groove of rectangular cross section formed therein with an insert of matching "U"-shaped section dimensioned to seat in the groove. Reinforcing bars at the end of the blanket are received in the insert to extend along the inner walls thereof, the reinforcing bars presenting, along their inner edges, upwardly facing ledge surfaces. A longitudinal clamping bar dimensioned to bridge and clampingly seat upon the ledge surfaces has a series of radially oriented cap screws threaded into holes in the bottom of the groove, so that upon tightening of the cap screws the reinforcing bars are drawn downwardly to tension the blanket. The insert has integral flanges along its presented edges over which the ends of the blanket are bent at right angles, the flanges extending mutually inwardly so that a minimum gap is defined by the flanges thereby to enable use of the blanket cylinder with a plate cylinder having a maximum of printing area.

  • Patent number: 4313378
Abstract: A "no-lock" printing plate assembly including a plate cylinder having a smooth plate-supporting surface interrupted by an axial groove defining leading and trailing edges, at least the leading edge having a flat undercut end face with a register pin anchored therein. The plate is formed of a thin sheet of resilient material having a smooth undersurface and which is bent over adjacent its ends to define leading and trailing edge portions having respective longitudinal notches, the bend adjacent the leading edge making an acute angle and the bend adjacent the trailing edge making a wide obtuse angle. The width of the gap is substantially greater than twice the plate thickness and the edge portions of the plate are spaced and dimensioned so that when the plate is installed the bends are peripherally spaced from one another to provide clearance between them. The trailing edge portion of the plate is outwardly sprung causing the trailing edge of the plate to be in pressing engagement with the leading edge portion.

  • Patent number: 4304182
Abstract: A "no-lock" printing plate assembly including a plate cylinder having a smooth plate supporting surface interrupted by a narrow axial groove having parallel side walls terminating in leading and trailing edges to form a gap, the side wall adjacent the leading edge presenting a flat angularly undercut end face. A single register pin is rigidly anchored perpendicular to the undercut end face. The plate is formed of a thin sheet of resilient material having a first bend at each end spaced from the leading and trailing edges of the plate to define respective leading and trailing edge portions. The leading and trailing edge portions have alined notches dimensioned to register with the pin. The edge portions are spaced and dimensioned for insertion into the gap into a condition in which the first bends are peripherally spaced from one another to provide clearance between them.

  • Patent number: RE30718
Abstract: A curved saddle for supporting and tensioning a flexible printing plate which has a series of closely spaced apertures along opposite edge portions. Each end of the saddle is provided with a circumferentially moveable spring biased bar having a series of spaced lugs over which opposite ends of the appertured plate may be positioned and secured. To facilitate positioning of the plate over the bar lugs, each bar has a locking mechanism which secures the bar in a retracted position upon manually moving the bar to that position. After a plate is secured to the bar, the locking mechanism may be readily released by depressing an actuating plunger, thereby permitting the bar to be urged under the spring biasing force to an outwardly extended plate tensioning position.
