  • Patent number: 7516845
Abstract: A medical device package includes a body with at least one chamber therein, a proximal end and a distal end. The medical device package also includes at least one deformable projection within the chamber(s). Furthermore, the deformable projection is configured to deform resiliently upon contact with a medical device during insertion of the medical device into the chamber and, thereby, removably retain the medical device within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6745800
Abstract: A filling system for use between an anesthetic storage container and a drug reservoir of an anesthetic vaporizer to prevent overfilling of the drug reservoir. The filling system includes a filling conduit that extends between the drug reservoir and the anesthetic storage container to allow a liquid anesthetic agent to flow from the storage container to the drug reservoir. A closing valve is positioned adjacent to a flow opening of a filling conduit such that the closing valve can be moved to a closed position to prevent the flow of anesthetic agent into the drug reservoir. The closing valve includes a float that controls the opening and closing of the closing valve depending upon the level of the anesthetic agent within the drug reservoir.

  • Patent number: 6585016
Abstract: A system for facilitating the delivery of a liquid anesthetic agent from an anesthetic bottle to an anesthetic vaporizer. The system includes a bottle adapter, an anesthetic bottle and a filler arrangement positioned on the anesthetic vaporizer. The bottle adapter and filler arrangement each include a keyed configuration such that only the correct type of anesthetic agent can be emptied into the anesthetic vaporizer. The bottle adapter includes an adapter valve assembly that engages a filler valve assembly contained within the filler. The dimensions and arrangement of the adapter valve assembly and the filler valve assembly insure anesthetic agent is delivered to the anesthetic vaporizer only when the anesthetic agent can safely flow from the anesthetic bottle to the anesthetic vaporizer.

  • Patent number: 6024087
Abstract: An emergency oxygen system that provides a flow of oxygen to the patient undergoing anesthesia in the event of a detected fault in the overall supply and mixing system of the anesthesia system. The normal design of such supply and mixing systems for an anesthesia system provides oxygen and at least one other gas that are mixed together in a desired proportion to be provided to a vaporizer and then to the anesthesia system as fresh gas. In the present system, a processor continuously monitors the output flows from those proportioning mixing valves. When the processor determines that those flows from the proportioning valves are off by a predetermined amount, indicative of a fault in the system, the processor immediately shuts off the supply of any gases other than oxygen and also provides a flow of oxygen to a bypass line that bypasses the oxygen proportioning valve, thus assuring a supply of oxygen to the patient despite the fault.

  • Patent number: 5651357
Abstract: A system of making a connection between the yoke of an anesthetic delivery apparatus and a gas cylinder for supplying a gas to that apparatus. The system includes an adaptor block that has a keying system, such as pegs, that keys the adapter block into a specific gas cylinder, such as by indentations. The adapter block has machine readable indicia and is affixed to the anaesthesia delivery apparatus such that the apparatus can read the indicia to determine the position of the adaptor block and thus identify the particular gas cylinder that is connected to the adapter block. By this system, a plurality of gas cylinders having differing gases can be used to supply a single inlet of an anesthetic delivery apparatus rather than have a separate inlet for each gas. In each instance, the particular gas thus provided is identified by the anaesthetic delivery apparatus to make the necessary adjustments to that apparatus to administer the gas to a patient.
