  • Patent number: 8199164
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing multisampling-based antialiasing in a system that includes first and second graphics processing unit (GPUs) that reduces the amount of data transferred between the GPUs and improves the efficiency with which such data is transferred. The first GPU renders a first version of a frame using a first multisampling pattern and the second GPU renders a second version of a frame in the second GPU using a second multisampling pattern. The second GPU identifies non-edge pixels in the second version of the frame. The pixels in the first version of the frame are then combined with only those pixels in the second version of the frame that have not been identified as non-edge pixels to generate a combined frame.

  • Patent number: 7764833
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for data compression that includes representing each sub-pixel of each pixel with a pointer corresponding to an attribute of the sub-pixel, the attribute being a floating point binary number. An overall attribute of each pixel is then determined. The determining of the overall attribute of each tile may include any one of assigning the attribute of the sub-pixels to the overall attribute of the pixel when the sub-pixels are represented by an identical pointer, and resolving the overall attribute of the tile by the attributes of the sub-pixels when the sub-pixels are represented by non-identical pointers of the pixel.

  • Publication number: 20040066388
Abstract: The present invention provides a solution to the problems of performing transformation functions on data originating in gamma space and part of systems that do not use, or are not intended to use, gamma correction schemes. The invention provides additional stages to a transform block used by a transform function. In the scheme of the invention, each input sample has a degamma function (inverse gamma) applied to it to transform it from gamma space to linear space, prior to the transform block. The degamma function is such as to approximate the transfer function of a typical monitor. After the transform operation is applied at the transform block to produce a result, a gamma function is applied to the result to return the sample to gamma space so that the output sample is ready for further processing.
