Abstract: An interactive apparatus for a urinal comprises one or more non-contact passive infra-red sensors, computing means and a display. The one or more non-contact passive infra-red sensors are arranged to detect a flow of liquid within one or more zones and to output a signal corresponding to the target zone or zones in which the flow of liquid has been detected. The zones are located in the vicinity of a urinal receptacle. The computing means receives the signal from the one or more non-contact passive infra-red sensors, processes some or all of the signals from the one or more non-contact passive infra-red sensors and produces an output signal. The output signal is output to the display. A method for carrying out the invention is disclosed.
