Patent number: 10082420Abstract: A method for determining the mass of a body is described. The method comprises the application and measurement of a first motive force to the body to move the body in a first state of motion. The acceleration of the body is also measured at this time. This methodology is repeated for a second state of motion. The measured motive forces and accelerations are then used to calculate the mass, and hence the weight of the body. An accelerometer may be employed to measure the accelerations. The methods may be adapted so as to correct for the angle ? of the ground across which the body is moved and or the tilt angle ? of the accelerometer relative to the ground. The methods may employ a novel surface angle measuring device that does not require contact with the ground and which does not require the body to be stationary.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2014Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Inventor: Gordon A. Patent number: 7123014Abstract: The projection of magnetic gradient fields useful in Magnetic Resonance Imaging where projection of a gradient outside of a field generating assembly allows imaging of samples which will not physically fit inside the coil confines. The linearity of the projected gradient field is improved by arranging the position of the magnetic field generating coil conductors such that the second derivative of a gradient component is equal to zero. In one practical example the linearity is improved by providing a first circular coil which is positioned so that its center is offset along the axis of the field generating coil assembly by a distance equal to half the radius of the coil. In another example a pair of current carrying wires are selectively positioned offset from a region of interest.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2005Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: BTG International LimitedInventors: Peter Gordon Morris, Abdullah Hussien Jamea

Patent number: 6794865Abstract: A method and system for detecting an anomaly in a fluid system, comprising exposing a sample of the fluid system to a first, non-oscillating magnetic field, simultaneously exposing the sample to a second, oscillating magnetic field orthogonal to the first field, modulating one or both of the magnetic fields, and detecting and capturing a resulting NMR signal from the sample. An analysis of the captured signal, typically involving transformation of the signal into an NMR frequency domain spectrum, can be performed to look for specific changes in the signal indicative of the presence of a particular anomaly.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2001Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventors: Kenneth Richard Astley, Paul Anuzis, Ian Colin Deuchar Care, Terry Alan Moore, Peter Gordon Morris, Paul David Rees

Patent number: 6331838Abstract: An antenna adapted to be mounted to a motor vehicle for receiving digital audio signals from a satellite. The antenna includes a base configured to be secured to a vehicle, and an elongated mast constructed of a polymer material and including at least one antenna-forming conductor extending along the mast to receive signals. A spring member flexibly connects the elongated mast to the base, and an elastomeric cover extends between the base and the elongated mast and envelops the spring member. A flexible conductor is connected to the antenna-forming conductor and extends through the elastomeric cover.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2000Date of Patent: December 18, 2001Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Daniel Scott, Daniel Gordon Morris
