    Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst and method of making and using same for primary alcohols from synthesis gas. It employes a Group IA alkali metal promoter with copper for a high selectivity and productivity in producing methanol and higher alcohols. Under higher temperatures, and lower hydrogen to carbon monoxide ratios, the catalyst is selective for higher linear alcohols.
