Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of an EDM electrode dressing template comprising a body made of an electrically conductive material. Bonded to the body is a pad with an electrically conductive material with hardness greater than the body. An electrode with an eroded end is positioned proximate the pad and a DC current pulses between the eroded end and the pad. After a period of time, the eroded end is shaped into a dressed tip. Since the pad is less susceptible to spark erosion than the body, the electrode is more consistently dressed and the template is replaced less frequently.

Abstract: An automated method and apparatus for electrode discharge machining wherein method includes moving the tool holder to the electrode loader, automatically mounting an electrode into the tool holder and then testing the electrode for conformance to geometric and dimension tolerances and testing the electrode for proper alignment in the tool holder and thus proper alignment relative to the workpiece just prior to moving the tool holder to the workpiece area for machining. The apparatus includes a moveable servomechanism with a tool holder, an electrode magazine, and a sensor module for testing an electrode mounted in the tool holder. The sensor module has a recess configuration of conductive material complimentary to the electrode such that the electrode will make contact with the conductive material when inserted into the sensor module if the electrode is out of tolerance or misaligned in the tool holder.

Abstract: 1. A case-bonded solid propellant rocket motor having a motor case, the motor case having an inner surface, a double-base propellant located in the motor case, the double-base propellant having an outer surface, and a layer of a polyvinyl acetal resin bonded to the outer surface of the double-base propellant to bond the propellant to the inner surface of the motor case.
