  • Publication number: 20050226511
Abstract: An apparatus and method for content management allows a large volume of incoming content to be classified and retrieved in real time. Content items are automatically analyzed and a signature generated for each item. Content items are classified into topic clusters by comparing each item's signature with the signature of previously defined topics. The content items are clustered based on the similarity of their signatures to the topic signatures. Topics are defined through selection of exemplary content items. By means of a graphical user interface, an operator defines the topic by selecting the exemplary articles from a listing. The operator may further define the topic by specifying attributes such as source, currency, and type. A graphical topic map allows the user to discern the relatedness of the various topics.

  • Publication number: 20050080797
Abstract: In a system for content management, a dynamic lexicon allows dictionary and lexical data at NLP (natural-language processing) engines at remote sites to stay current with table data at a central location without suffering the time loss involved in computing new tables at the remote sites, or computing new tables at the central site and distributing them. As new terms are added to the dictionary, each term is assigned a unique token identifier. A first step involves downloading extensions to the table data in real time whenever a new word or expression is encountered. A second step involves periodically updating the table data in real time with recomputed data transmitted in compact data files from the central location. Content items in the local archive are re-indexed based on the updated table data. Maintaining tokens across generations of tables allows documents in different languages to be associated without requiring translation.

  • Publication number: 20040117405
Abstract: A method for relating media to information in a workflow system provides pre-processed Natural Language Processing (NLP) tables of a database of informational content such as text documents, Web pages, images, video, music, etc., that provide information pertaining to a statistical and heuristic analysis of the informational content and description of the content. The tables are used for algorithmic comparison to other documents and media. The invention can be used in workflow applications and media applications, e.g., television set top boxes. The invention performs real time analysis of incoming media content or workflow content and algorithmically matches informational content that pertain to the media or workflow content using the pre-processed tables. This is through algorithmic analysis of the text in, and/or associated with, the informational content and the text in or associated with the incoming media content or workflow content.

  • Patent number: 5551105
Abstract: An apparatus combining an overbed table, IV stand, walker, and optionally a wheeled chair is described. The IV stand portion of the apparatus can be raised for administering intravenous liquids or lowered for concealment. The table portion can be detachable so that the stand can be attached to a patient's bed. The apparatus contains a wide wheelbase for stability as a walker, yet furnishes easy maneuverability. The apparatus also contains mechanisms for attaching oxygen bottles, catheterization equipment, infusion pumps, and the like. An embodiment containing a wheeled chair functionality combines the table and wheeled chair functionalities so that one or the other can be selected for use. This multifunctional apparatus reduces the amount of occupied floor space in a patient's room and reduces the need for storage space for IV stands, walkers, wheeled chairs and the like.
