  • Publication number: 20070021095
Abstract: A short wave omnidirectional antenna for the 26 Megahertz band provides line-of-sight broadcasting at comparatively low power to serve local communities while suppressing sky wave propagation. Sky wave suppression is achieved by a critically configured reflector above the radiator or by a co-located second active or parasitic radiator spaced to achieve sufficient beam tilt to create a null at critical angles, generally from the horizon to thirty degrees above. This arrangement allows local broadcasts to be originated at numerous sites despite the narrow extent of the band (330 kHz) and the narrow (10 kHz) channel width. Among other possible applications, the antenna supports transmission using the Digital Radio MondialeĀ® (DRMĀ®) system for COFDM. COFDM technology can suppress ghosting and most noise, while low emission angle of the antenna and low intended transmitter power largely prevent interference between broadcasts at moderate distances.

  • Publication number: 20060146377
Abstract: Apparatus for scanning a moving object includes a visible waveband sensor 12 oriented to collect a series of images of the object as it passes through a field of view 16. An image processor 14 uses the series of images to form a composite image. The image processor 14 stores image pixel data for a current image and a predecessor image in the series. It uses information in the current image and its predecessor to analyse images and derive likelihood measures indicating probabilities that current image pixels correspond to parts of the object. The image processor 14 estimates motion between the current image and its predecessor from likelihood weighted pixels. It generates the composite image from frames positioned according to respective estimates of object image motion. Image motion may alternatively be detected by a speed sensor such as a Doppler radar 200 sensing object motion directly and providing image timing signals.

  • Patent number: 6898855
Abstract: A scraping tool employing a sharp-edged blade comprising a top, bottom, door, carrier, blade, storage box and an ergonomic base grip. The top, bottom and base grip combine to form the scraper tool body. The blade is attached to the carrier which is contained within the body and slides back and forth allowing the blade to be exposed. The storage box is contained within the body and can be used to store spare and used scraper blades.

  • Patent number: 6285334
Abstract: A slot antenna is described. The slot antenna includes a waveguide having a first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side, a closed end and an open end. The second side extends substantially perpendicularly from a first end of the first side. The third side extends substantially perpendicularly from a second end of the first side. The fourth side extends between the second side and the third side with the fourth side substantially parallel to the first side. The sides and the closed end form a cavity. A feeding point is located substantially midway between the first end of the first side and the second end of the first side. A T-Bar is located inside the cavity, the T-bar having a center member extending from the feeding point into the cavity and a cross member having a length extending across the cavity between the second side and the third side.
