  • Patent number: 9156966
Abstract: A method of incorporating a UV light absorber into a polyester during the esterification or the condensation process by selecting the UV absorber from a class that is substantially not reactive with the polyester raw materials, is stable in the conditions of polycondensation or polymerization, and does not suffer loss through volatilization, resulting in an incorporation yield of 70% or higher, preferably 90% or higher. One embodiment comprises selecting the appropriate compound from the class of triazines and incorporating is as a solid powder in the beginning of the esterification. Another embodiment comprises selecting the appropriate compound from the class of triazines and incorporating it in the form of slurry during the time interval between esterification and condensation. Other embodiments include novel resins and films made by the UV absorber containing polyester resin made by the methods disclosed herein.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 31, 2013
Date of Patent: October 13, 2015
    Assignee: TORAY PLASTICS (AMERICA), INC.
Inventors: Stefanos L Sakellarides, Gordon Vincent Sharps, Jr.

  • Patent number: 7611770
Abstract: Films containing a sealant layer composition comprising: (1) polyethylene homopolymer, and ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, and ethylene/acrylate copolymer; and (2) elastomer, plastomer, ionomer, and carboxyl-modified polyethylene; when sealed to another outer film layer comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of ionomer, ethylene/acid copolymer, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and ethylene/acrylate copolymer, have been discovered to provide a seal strength comparable to an ionomer to ionomer seal.

  • Patent number: 7297391
Abstract: Aspects of the invention are found in a multilayer film comprising a first polymer layer and a second polymer layer. The first polymer layer comprises a blend of a first fluoropolymer having a first average molecular weight and a second fluoropolymer having a second average molecular weight. The first average molecular weight is greater than the second average molecular weight.
