  • Patent number: 4708638
Abstract: The flame temperature of a fluid fuel fired burner (10) is reduced by mixing flue gas (35) with the combustion air supply (34) before introduction of the fuel and combustion take place. The NOX produced by the process of combustion is thereby reduced. The flue gas (35) may also be induced from the furnace remote from the flame zone of the burner (10) such that the flame is not disturbed. A venturi (21) may be used to induce the flue gas (35) from the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4627812
Abstract: A method of starting up a fluidized bed combustor in which a gas containing oxygen is passed from an outlet beneath the level of the slumped bed to cause a spouting action above the level of the slumped bed. Liquid fuel is supplied from a nozzle adjacent to or located within the spout, and an ignition source applied to the bed. The liquid fuel and gas containing oxygen supply are regulated so as to fluidize at least part of the bed adjacent to the liquid fuel outlet and to obtain a controlled rise in the temperature of the bed until the hot fluidized condition is reached.

  • Patent number: 4311278
Abstract: A nozzle injection unit for an oil fired fluid combustor has a pair of co-axial tubes sealed together at one end. The outer tube has an inlet and lateral outlets near the sealed end and is connected to an air supply. The inner tube is connected to a fuel oil supply and has a number of circumferential lateral outlets communicating with the outer tube. The oil emerging from the inner tube is carried by the air flow in the outer tube into the fluidized bed where it is ignited and consumed.

  • Patent number: 4165040
Abstract: An exchangeable or removable nozzle arrangement for use in a fluidized bed furnace is movable and in sealing contact with a surrounding sleeve at one end of the nozzle and may be withdrawn from the sleeve through a valve at the other end of the sleeve. An inlet to the space between the sleeve and the nozzle is connected to a source of pressurized fluidizing gas. Upon removal of a nozzle, while the furnace is under load, the bed is maintained in its fluidized state.
