  • Patent number: 11910456
Abstract: A communication system and method for supporting a plurality of vehicle-to-everything radio access technologies (V2X RATs) is provided. The communication system configured to support multiple V2X RATs transmits, using a first V2X RAT, an indication of its availability to support an interworking function between the plurality of V2X RATs. The communication system receives an instruction to provide the interworking function between different V2X RATs. The interworking function may be incorporated in a vehicle that is joined to a platoon configured to use a first V2X RAT, and provide the interworking function between the first and a second V2X RAT. The interworking function may be used to add further vehicles to the platoon that communicate using only the second V2X RAT.

  • Publication number: 20240053249
Abstract: Optical tweezer methods and apparatus that operate in reflection mode use polarization selection to isolate an input laser signal from optical signals associated with trapping. A trapping aperture or apertures can be defined in a conductive film such as a gold film have a polarization-dependent reflectance due to asymmetry of the aperture, and a reflected beam is polarized differently than an incident beam. Polarization of scattered light from the aperture can thus be distinguished from polarization of the incident beam. In some cases, an aperture is not used but instead polarizing nanoparticles, such as nanorods, are detected based on either transmitted or reflected optical radiation in a different state of polarization than that of the incident beam.

  • Publication number: 20240050116
Abstract: A tip for a surgical instrument comprising a cradle that is moveably mounted to a distal end of an elongate shaft. The cradle is rotatable relative to the elongate shaft about a pitch axis. A member is pivotally coupled to the cradle to move with and relative to the cradle about a grip axis that is substantially orthogonal to the pitch axis. The member is movable relative to the cradle about a yaw axis. In some embodiments, there is a second member that is pivotally coupled to the cradle to move with and relative to the cradle about a second grip axis that is substantially orthogonal to the pitch axis. In some embodiments, the first member and second member are selectably movable relative to each other between a closed configuration in which the first member contacts the second member and an open configuration.

  • Publication number: 20240051735
Abstract: A packaging material is provided including a substrate, and an oxygen transmission inhibiting layer that is carried by the substrate. The oxygen transmission inhibiting layer is formed of a composite material including a linear polysaccharide medium within which one or more additives are dispersed. The composite material is capable of forming a substantially continuous film to provide a barrier to transmission of oxygen gas. The oxygen transmission inhibiting layer is configured within the packaging material at a thickness that is efficacious in inhibiting the transmission of oxygen gas therethrough. A packaging device has two or more component parts, at least one of which is formed of the packaging material. The component parts of the packaging device are shaped and/or configured to be assembled to define an interior region within which goods are to be contained.

  • Publication number: 20240055012
Abstract: A system and method for reverberation reduction is disclosed. A first Deep Neural Network (DNN) produces a first estimate of a target direct-path signal from a mixture of acoustic signals that include the target direct-path signal and a reverberation of the target direct-path signal. A filter modeling a room impulse response (RIR) for the first estimate is estimated. The filter when applied to the first estimate of the target direct-path signal generates a result closest to a residual between the mixture of the acoustic signals and the first estimate of the target direct-path signal according to a distance function. The estimated filter is used for modeling the RIR.

  • Publication number: 20240049828
Abstract: A novel liquid-based system and shock absorber for reducing the forces experienced during high-energy impacts is provided. Individual shock absorbing devices can be used in parallel or in series to create a tunable network that is based on the specific energy absorption requirements for each application. Each shock absorbing device consists of a flexible, primary fluid-filled reservoir that, when impacted, ejects the liquid at high pressure through an array of orifices into a secondary flexible, low-pressure collection reservoir, where it is temporarily stored before the liquid returns to the primary reservoir where the device is ready for the next impact. Optionally, the shock absorbing device may be a single-use device, where the liquid ejects from but does not return to the reservoir.
