Abstract: A double cut folder is provided for a printing press. The folder has a first cutting cylinder pair including a first knife cylinder and a first anvil cylinder for perforating a web, and a second cutting cylinder pair including a second knife cylinder and a second anvil cylinder for cutting the web into signatures. Each cutting cylinder pair includes a plurality of knife mounting locations and a plurality of cutting rubber locations. Each knife mounting location is configured to hold a knife box. A first subset of the plurality of knife mounting locations each have a knife box secured therein, and a second subset of the plurality of knife mounting locations do not have a knife box secured therein.

Abstract: A folder for a printing press includes a cutting cylinder assembly having at least two knife and anvil cylinder sets positioned near the cutting region of a folder. The cutting cylinder assembly slides or actuates one of the knife and anvil cylinder sets into a cutting position for a desired cut length. The web passes between the knife and anvil cylinder set and is cut. When the cut length needs to be changed, the assembly is relocated to such a position that a second or further set of knife and anvil cylinders is aligned with the web.

Abstract: A broadsheet newspaper printing press has at least one print unit printing at least one web of material and a folder. The folder has a cross-cutter to cut the web of material into broadsheet newspapers, a tucker cylinder having a gripper gripping the broadsheet newspapers at a lead edge and a tucking blade for forming a cross-fold in the broadsheet newspapers, and a jaw cylinder or fold rollers to receive the cross-folded broadsheet newspapers from the tucker cylinder at the cross-fold, the gripper being located with respect to the tucking blade so that the cross-fold is located at between 33% and 45% or 55% and 67% of the height of the newspaper.

Abstract: A method for transporting printed products is provided. The method includes the steps setting a nip to a first size for printed products having a first thickness, sensing a printed product having a second thickness different from the first thickness, the printed product sensing occurring prior to the printed product entering the nip, adjusting the first size of the nip, to a second size different from the first size, to receive the printed product having a second thickness; and transporting the printed product having the second thickness through the nip.

Abstract: An inking apparatus for a printing press is provided. The inking apparatus includes an anilox roll and at least one ink pump. The anilox roll includes an interior region, a porous layer surrounding the interior region and an outer surface of engraved cells surrounding the porous layer. The at least one ink pump is adapted to pump ink into the interior region and through the porous layer to the outer surface of engraved cells. A printing press and a method for providing ink to an anilox roll are also provided.
