  • Patent number: 5253681
Abstract: The reed of an air weaving loom is divided into spaced sections for forming a fabric gap. The warp threads are guided through the reed sections, but are absent in a zone of the fabric gap. The weft threads that would bridge the fabric gap are cut in the gap and formed into a selvage. The gap, is formed where the reed sections are spaced from each other to form a breach. A reed filler member is mounted in a stationary position in the reed breach, so that the filler member aligns with the reed sections when the reed is in the rear position. Only the reed sections perform the beat-up motion.

  • Patent number: 4817681
Abstract: A weft thread brake for shuttleless looms has a controllable braking effect. For this purpose, two rows of thread guide eyes are arranged in parallel to each other and between the thread supply reels or coils on the one hand and the thread presenting mechanism on the other hand. Brake leaf springs are arranged individually or in pairs for each weft thread, whereby these leaf springs reach approximately in the direction of the respective weft thread movement and into the space between the two parallel rows of thread guide eyes for cooperation with a common control rail which simultaneously presses all threads of a group of threads against the respective brake leaf spring. The braking action is individually adjustable for each weft thread by properly selecting the characteristics of the respective brake leaf spring or leaf springs.

  • Patent number: 4520850
Abstract: The auxiliary warp threads required in a shuttleless weaving machine to form a detachable catch selvage are guided through a special auxiliary reed. In the rest position, the auxiliary reed is positioned tightly against the main reed. The auxiliary reed is so guided in its motion that, in addition to the conventional beat-up motion coupled to the main reed, it also performs an additional displacement directed laterally outwards. As a result, a cutting strip is formed between the fabric and the catch selvage. The projecting filling ends held by the auxiliary warp threads are drawn into the catch selvage during this step. The length of filling yarn required for the cutting strip is drawn from the edge waste projecting over the catch selvage and therefore the waste in filling yarn is reduced by the size of the cutting strip width.
