  • Patent number: 6322745
Abstract: A vessel which produces metal from a metalliferous feed material by a direct smelting process is disclosed. The vessel contains a molten bath having a metal layer (15) and a slag layer (16) on the metal layer and has a gas continuous space (31) above the slag layer. The vessel includes a hearth formed of refractory material having a base (3) and sides (55) in contact with the molten metal and side walls (5) which extend upwardly from the sides (55) of the hearth and are in contact with the slag layer and the gas continuous space. The side walls that contact the gas continuous space include water cooled panels (57) and a layer of slag on the panels.

  • Patent number: 5456228
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a bearing cap (3) for positioning the crankshaft (40) within the cylinder block (1). Spacer sleeves (20), which are attached with the main bearing cap bolts (5), are provided with dowel pins (32) having free ends (33) extending therefrom. The free ends of the dowel pins are mated with pockets (34) formed on the inner surface of the reinforcement element. A hardenable material (38) is injected into the space formed between the dowel pins and the pockets so as to form a locked reinforcement element to each of the dowel pins.

  • Patent number: 4569126
Abstract: A residual distance to a stop surface and a minimum pressing force are specified. A machine part is moved through the residual distance. The pressing force is detected and compared with the specified minimum pressing force. The machine part is moved against the stop surface only when the pressing force exceeds the specified minimum pressing force.
