    Abstract: Silanes of the general formula are prepared, wherein R1, R2 and R3 in the molecule are the same or different and represent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon groups, R4 is a divalent hydrocarbon group with 4 to 12 carbon atoms and a lateral hydroxyl group, wherein the hydrocarbon group can be interrupted by an ether oxygen, R5 is a hydrophilic, ionic group. A method for synthesizing these compounds is described. The silanes greatly lower the surface tension of aqueous solutions, the surface tension being reduced to values of about 23 mN/m. The silanes are biologically degradable and have pronounced surfactant properties.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of active magnesium hydride-magnesium-hydrogen storage systems, which reversibly absorb hydrogen, with addition of a catalyst for the absorption of hydrogen with the formation of hydride. Magnesium hydride particles.ltoreq.400 .mu.m in diameter are added in an amount of at least 1.2% by weight, based on the magnesium to be hydrogenated, as catalyst during the first hydrogenation to the finely divided magnesium to be hydrogenated. The hydrogenation is carried out at a temperature of .gtoreq.250.degree. C. and a pressure of 0.5 to 5 MPa. The method is carried out with intensive stirring of the material that is being reacted.

    Abstract: A method for the preparation of active magnesium hydride-magnesium-hydrogen storage systems, which absorb hydrogen reversibly is disclosed. Finely divided magnesium is doped with nickel for this purpose. A pressure reactor is charged with a mixture of finely divided magnesium and an amount of nickel sufficient for the doping. Tetracarbonyl nickel is produced in the pressure reactor and subsequently decomposed. Carbon monoxide is then withdrawn from the pressure reactor and the doped magnesium obtained is hydrogenated at temperature of .gtoreq.300.degree. C. and elevated pressure.

    Abstract: A composition is disclosed which is useful for the water-repellent impregnation of porous mineral building materials. The composition is based on organosilicon compounds which contain alkoxy groups and comprises an emulsion which contains 2.5 to 25% by weight of an alkoxysilane of the formulaR.sup.1 -Si(OR.sup.2).sub.3whereinR.sup.1 is an alkyl group with 3 to 12 carbon atoms andR.sup.2 is a methyl or ethyl group, 2 to 20% by weight of an alkoxysiloxane of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.3 is an alkyl group with 1 to 6 carbon atomsa is 0.8 to 1.2 andb is 0.2 to 1.2,0.01 to 5% by weight of an emulsifier, 0.01 to 0.1% by weight of fillers with an effective surface area of at least 40 m.sup.2 /g and 49.9 to 95.48% by weight of water. The composition has a long shelf life and, due to its high penetration, a high water-repellent effect on the surface, as well as deep within, all mineral building materials.
