  • Patent number: 9056515
Abstract: An inkjet printable media comprises a paper base containing a surface coating comprising calcium chloride and a synergistic amount of a sulfate salt. When the printable media is printed with an inkjet ink containing a black pigment, a KOD value of the printed media is equal to or greater than that of a comparative inkjet printed media comprising up to 12 kg calcium chloride/T media and lacking the sulfate salt.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 29, 2010
Date of Patent: June 16, 2015
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Gracy A. Wingkono, John L. Stoffel, Xiaogi Zhou
  • Patent number: 8846138
Abstract: A method for surface treatment of a paper substrate and a paper product produced therefrom are disclosed herein. The surface treatment method includes applying a salt-containing solution to at least one surface of a paper substrate by aerosol spraying in a separate step, whereby the salt distribution through the thickness of the treated paper substrate is non-uniform with the highest concentration of salt being present in the outermost portion of the paper substrate. The salt-containing solution contains at least one water-soluble metal salt and is void of any optical brightening agent (OBA).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 10, 2010
Date of Patent: September 30, 2014
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Xiaoqi Zhou, Xulong Fu, Gracy Wingkono
  • Patent number: 8685503
Abstract: A surface-treated paper produced by applying a surface sizing composition to at least one surface of a base paper, wherein said surface sizing composition comprises a non-film-forming polymer latex and a metallic salt, said non-film-forming polymer latex has a minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT) of greater than 70° C., and said surface sizing composition does not form a continuous film on the treated surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 2010
Date of Patent: April 1, 2014
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
