  • Publication number: 20160338870
Abstract: The present invention relates in general to a device to assist in the prevention of snoring. The device comprising: a membrane shaped as an elongate oval having opposed sides and opposed arcuate ends, the membrane having a front and a rear face; a hypoallergenic adhesive applied uniformly to the rear face of said membrane, and a backing sheet which covers the adhesive on the back of said membrane; at least one tab formed at one of the arcuate ends of the membrane, such that the at least one tab allows the membrane to be easily manipulated between open and closed positions; and wherein the device is sized and configured to substantially cover a user's closed lips and an area of skin adjacent to each lip to hold the lips in a closed position and therefore provide a good seal of the device to the area around the mouth of the user.

  • Publication number: 20120004607
Abstract: A retractable needle safety syringe (11) with plunger locking mechanism is disclosed. Locking means (36) are provided in the body (12) of the syringe to engage the plunger (13) once it is retracted after use, so that the syringe is rendered incapable of being used further. The locking means is preferably provided by a twist lock feature. A region of weakness (24) is also provided in the plunger so that after the needle is retracted into the body of the syringe, and the plunger engaged with the locking means, the plunger is broken off so it cannot be depressed again.

  • Patent number: 7806860
Abstract: A safety syringe is disclosed. The safety syringe has a retractable needle facility incorporated therein, the syringe comprising a barrel and plunger and needle assembly. The needle is caused to retract into the barrel of the syringe upon completion of injection once it has been used, by means of engagement between the needle assembly and the end of the plunger. Locking means preferably in the form of a locking bush is provided in the body of the syringe to engage the plunger once it is retracted after use, so that the syringe is rendered incapable of being used further.

  • Publication number: 20090299285
Abstract: An auto retractable safety syringe (11) is disclosed. The syringe has barrel (12) which has a hollow plunger (13) located therein. The plunger has piston means (39) associated therewith so as to be sealingly slideable within the barrel. The syringe further has a needle cartridge assembly (14) located in the barrel, the needle cartridge assembly comprising a needle (20), needle hub (21), and a housing (15, 16) therefor. The needle cartridge assembly is initially releasably engaged on the end of the plunger in a retracted state within the barrel prior to use, and is movable to and engageable with the end (25) of the barrel where the needle extends therefrom in an in-use position for performing an injection. During this time the plunger is withdrawn from engagement with the cartridge, so as to function in known manner as a plunger for taking fluid into the barrel and causing it to be injected into a patient.

  • Publication number: 20090240210
Abstract: An auto-retractable safety syringe comprising a syringe barrel (12) having a hollow plunger (13) slideably located therein. The needle assembly comprises a needle and a needle hub (17), with a groove in the end of the barrel (12) to hold the needle hub (17) and a spring disposed over said needle hub (17) and acting between the needle hub (17) and the end of the barrel (12). The needle hub (17) has a groove around its circumference in which a locking means mates so as to retain the needle hub (17) in the end of the syringe barrel (12) during use. The plunger (13) upon completion of an injection and when further depressed activates auto retraction of the needle hub (17) by dislodging said locking means from said groove to release the needle hub (17) hence allowing the needle and spring to retract inside the hollow plunger (13) under the influence of the spring.

  • Publication number: 20090171287
Abstract: A single use safety retractable syringe (10) having a retractable needle (20) is disclosed. The syringe includes a hollow barrel (11), a plunger (13) which slideably fits in the barrel, and a piston (13) which fits on the forepart of the plunger. The syringe also includes an actuator mechanism (14), which is located in the forepart of the barrel. The actuator mechanism has a stem (18) for supporting a needle hub (15). Means (24) are provided on the end of the plunger to engage the actuator and cause it to retract with the needle upon completion of the injection.

  • Publication number: 20090118677
Abstract: A safety syringe comprising a syringe barrel (12), a plunger (13), a needle (14), a needle hub (15) integral with the needle, a needle gland (16) to accommodate the needle-and hub, and a needle cap (19) to protect the needle prior to use. The plunger has engagement means (25, 36) located on its end to engage with the needle hub in order to retract the needle from the gland and into the syringe barrel after the syringe has been used. The plunger is provided with a threaded split bush (28), which has a multi start thread. When the plunger is fully retracted with the needle attached, the plunger has one or more lugs (31) that come into contact with the threaded split bush so that the plunger is thereby locked. Hence the needle is locked in the barrel. The plunger may be snapped off retaining the needle safely within the syringe barrel.

The actuator mechanism has a stem (18) for supporting a needle hub (15). Means (24) are provided on the end of the plunger to engage the actuator and cause it to retract with the needle upon completion of the injection.

  • Publication number: 20080208119
Abstract: A safety syringe having a retractable exchange needle is disclosed. The safety syringe (11) has a retractable needle (14) incorporated therein. The syringe barrel (12) has a plunger (13) slideably located therein, with piston means 26 located towards the end of the plunger remote from the end of the barrel from which the plunger extends. The needle (14) has a needle hub (15) integral with the needle. The plunger has engagement means in the form of a clip (22) having barbed means (24) associated therewith and located on its end to engage with the needle hub in order to retract the needle from an in use position into the syringe barrel after the syringe has been used.

  • Publication number: 20080208122
Abstract: Means to control the retraction of an auto-retractable safety syringe to minimise splashback or splatter is disclosed. The end of a hollow plunger (11) is covered by a sealing member (14) that, upon retraction, is dislodged so that the needle assembly and seal enters the hollow plunger. Three methods by which the auto-retraction is controlled are disclosed. Firstly there is provided a taper within the inside of the hollow plunger which creates varying resistance of movement to the sealing member. Secondly there is provided a bleed hole (15) at the upper end of the plunger, whereby the air is allowed to escape. Thirdly, there is provided on or more grooves (16) in the periphery of the plunger seal so that air is allowed to be released, thereby reducing the pressure in the plunger and hence the possibility of splashback.

  • Publication number: 20080097307
Abstract: A retractable syringe (11) is disclosed wherein the needle (14) is located initially in a first storage position enclosed within the syringe body (12). In a second in-use position, the needle extends from the body of the syringe. To move needle from first to second position, the plunger (13) connects the needle boss (15) with the syringe body ens (16). The plunger is then disengaged from the needle boss enable the plunger to be withdrawn and thereby take in fluid into the syringe. Upon completion of injection the plunger engages with the needle boss enabling the plunger to be withdrawn, the needle remaining attached. Engaging the plunger to the needle boss requires the same amount of force as to perform the injection. Lateral forces act to engage the needle boss and the end of the plunger, for example by utilising a cam mechanism in the form of a finger lock device (26).
