  • Patent number: 5413843
Abstract: An inkable sheet, especially suitable for use with aqueous based inks, having an ink-absorbent later substrate which, on depositing an aqueous droplet thereon, exhibits an advancing contact angle not exceeding 100.degree. and has an ink absorption capacity not exceeding 35 grams of water per gram of the ink-absorbent layer. The contact angle of the sheet may be modified by the presence of a supercoat. This sheet has an excellent combination of characteristics even at high ink loadings, for example 300 dpi.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 6, 1992
Date of Patent: May 9, 1995
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Stephen Mann, Roger N. Barker, Graham A. Page, Stephen P. Corr
  • Patent number: 5102717
Abstract: An inkable sheet comprises a substrate and ink-absorbent layer, the surface of which exhibits an internal contact angle of at least 120.degree.. A modifying treatment provides a microporous surface zone of reduced apparent hydrophilicity which accepts a high loading of an aqueous-based ink. Ink patterns of high resolution are thereby achievable.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 23, 1990
Date of Patent: April 7, 1992
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Alan Butters, Graham A. Page, Roger N. Barker
  • Patent number: 4988572
Abstract: A coating composition for a plastics substrate such as a polyester film, comprises a polymeric amine, a polyepoxyresin and an etchant, and optionally includes a vinyl polymer. The composition is of utility as a priming medium in the production of photographic and reprographic elements, printing plates, inkable sheets, and the like.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 29, 1991
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Alan Butters, Graham A. Page
  • Patent number: 4902577
Abstract: An inkable sheet comprises a base sheet, such as a PET film, having on a surface thereof an ink-absorbent resin layer comprising an acrylic or methacrylic polymer containing free carboxylic acid groups and a plasticizer therefor.
