  • Publication number: 20200078532
Abstract: A needlestick prevention device (100) for an injection needle carried by a needle-bearing member (101) of a syringe (102) is formed as a one-piece moulding and comprises a first part (103) adapted to be attached to the needle-bearing member (101) and a second part (104) providing a shield for the needle and pivotally movable relative to the first part to expose the needle for use. The device is adapted to adopt a first position in which the needle is protected for transport of the device prior to use, a second position in which the needle is exposed for filling of the syringe and injection, a third position in which the needle is protected after filling of the syringe but before injection and a fourth position in which the needle is locked in the device following injection.

  • Publication number: 20160067413
Abstract: A syringe 1 comprises a barrel 2 and a plunger 3 sliding in the barrel and having a seal 8 in sealing engagement with an internal surface of the barrel, the barrel having a piercing member 20 with a piercing point 27 and an aperture 26 at its distal end. The aperture 26 is in communication with the distal end of the barrel, and the distal end of the barrel has a connection member 28 to which an adapter member 36 provided with an intradermal needle 39 is adapted to be attached. An intradermal injection adapter 36 for a syringe is also provided, the adapter comprising a body 37 having an intradermal needle 39 at a distal end, and a proximal end constructed and arranged for attachment to the barrel, the body also providing a fluid connection between the barrel 2 and the intradermal needle 39.

  • Patent number: 8622960
Abstract: A needlestick prevention device for an injection device having a hollow needle comprises a sheath for attachment to the injection device. The sheath has three positions. In a first, inoperative position the sheath sealingly encloses the needle. In a second operative position a first part of the sheath is removed, a second part remains attached to the injection device and a third part is pivoted about a hinge to expose the needle. In a third, cover position the third part is pivoted about the hinge to cover at least the tip of the needle and is retained in position by a retaining device acting between the second part and the third part. The needlestick prevention device is simple to manufacture and use.

  • Publication number: 20130079726
Abstract: A syringe for delivering medication through an intravenous port, or for providing a combination of medications includes a barrel with a plunger in slidable and sealing engagement therein, and a piercing member formed integrally with the barrel. The piercing member includes a bore in communication with the distal end of the barrel, and a piercing point and an aperture at a distal end of the piercing member. The distal end of the barrel sealingly connects to a transport cap, an intravenous port or an injection needle. The distal end of the piercing member is removable and includes an external recess and a corresponding internal step to define a separation plane for the distal end of the piercing member. The piercing member is used to draw up one or more medications into the barrel, and is then removed to enable the transport cap to be attached to seal the contents.

  • Patent number: 8366656
Abstract: A syringe comprises a barrel with a plunger in slidable and sealing engagement therein, and a needle attached to one end of the barrel. The barrel has an aspiration device in the form of manually-operable resilient portions, which can be operated to cause a pressure differential in the barrel, the pressure differential then being used to perform aspiration. The resilient portions are preferably formed by localized reductions of wall thickness in the external surface of the barrel.

  • Publication number: 20110112487
Abstract: A syringe for use in vaccine reconstitution or rehydration has a barrel (1) having a plunger (2) in slidable and sealing engagement therein, and a piercing member (3) formed integrally with the barrel. The piercing member (3) has a bore (10) in communication with the distal end of the barrel, and a piercing point (12) and aperture (13) at its distal end. The distal end of the piercing member (3) has an external taper which comprises a male luer part (15) compatible with an infusion set. The length of the distal end of the piercing member (3) distally of a predetermined attachment diameter of the male luer part (15) is chosen so that it cannot fit a standard metal syringe needle, as the end of the piercing member (3) engages with another part of the metal needle before the female luer part on the needle reaches the attachment diameter. The syringe is easy to use for rehydration, but cannot be used for normal injections.
