  • Patent number: 9475620
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved closure in the form of an annular component (2) closed by a peelable lidding material (9). More particularly, it relates to a closure which, in use on a container, is better able to respond differential pressure changes whilst also providing peelability.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 8, 2011
Date of Patent: October 25, 2016
    Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Andrew John Wallis, Graham Martin Gossedge
  • Patent number: 8833585
Abstract: A can end combination, a resealable beverage can, and a method of sealing a beverage can are disclosed. The can end combination may include a metal can end and a resealable closure coupled to the can end. The can end may include a center panel having an aperture formed therethrough. The closure may include a base plate and a top plate coupled to the base plate. The closure may have a sealed position in which the base plate contacts the center panel about the aperture to form at least one of a bore seal and a face seal. The closure may also have an intermediate position in which the base plate is proximate the aperture but the closure is devoid of the bore seal and the face seal. The closure may also have a fully open position in which the aperture is exposed to enable pouring liquid through the aperture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 22, 2009
Date of Patent: September 16, 2014
    Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Christopher Paul Ramsey, Sylvia Maria Farrow, Florian Christian Gregory Combe, Graham Martin Gossedge, Philip Norman Horton, Andrew Jonathan Sant

  • Publication number: 20080190880
Abstract: A closure (100,200) for a container (210), the closure (100,200) comprising a wadless membrane (20,220) and a shell (30), wherein the membrane (20,220) is adapted to be heat sealed to a rim (217) of a container to provide a gas-tight barrier, wherein the shell (30) has a downwardly extending resilient sealing element (40,240) for providing an even sealing pressure to the membrane (20,220) during heat sealing and for providing a gas-tight re-seal once the membrane (20,220) has been broken or removed.

  • Patent number: 5725120
Abstract: A lid 1 for a container body 8 having a side wall 7 portion at one end of which an annular portion 9 extends at an obtuse angle to the side wall to define the mouth of the container. The lid has an elastically deformable central panel 2 and a peripheral annular flange 3 which extends downwardly and outwardly from the central panel to define a seal surface to co-operate with the annular portion 9 of the body. When adhered or fused together the inclined portion of the lid and body receive the stress, arising as a thermal processing increases the volume of product packed, as a load in shear peel force being minimized.
