Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system for making payments via a value system based upon one or more commodity assets. The system includes an arrangement for maintaining one or more accounts in the value system, wherein the accounts have associated therewith one or more commodity assets, and an arrangement for diminishing or enhancing the one or more commodity assets associated with the one or more accounts in response to payments or receipts into the one or more accounts respectively. The system for making payments further includes an arrangement for using market makers for relating values of the one or more commodity assets to one or more monetary currencies employed for making the payments or receipts, wherein the market makers have external authorization outside a banking system.
