Patent number: 10669830Abstract: Embodiments of a sleeve assembly, used for stimulating multiple stages in a completion string has a lower shifting sleeve and an upper shifting sleeve and stimulation ports formed therebetween. The sleeves are caused to shift by progressively larger objects pumped through a bore of the completion string and engaging seats formed thereon. The seat on the lower sleeve is a releasable seat. When shifted the lower sleeve opens the stimulation ports. The seat on the upper sleeve is sized to accept the same size object as is required to engage and shift the lower sleeve on the stage uphole therefrom to close the ports. Thereby, stimulation ports are opened and closed without increasing a number of objects required to stimulate the wellbore. Further, as the ports at each stage below the stage being stimulated are closed, the objects are not required to isolate the bore therebelow.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2016Date of Patent: June 2, 2020Assignee: National Oilwell Varco, L.P.Inventors: Lewis Facca, Graham Styler, Andrew Sushko, William Tait, D. Patent number: 10544638Abstract: A multi-position tool for use at a downhole end of a conveyance string for operation in a casing string is provided. The tool comprises a mandrel connected to the conveyance string; an actuation housing slidably shiftable axially along the mandrel between an uphole position, at least one intermediate position and a downhole position; an uphole device operable between an activated position when the actuation housing is in the uphole position, and a deactivated position; and a downhole device operable between an activated position when the actuation housing is in the downhole position, and a deactivated position. Both the uphole and downhole devices are in their deactivated positions when the actuation housing is in the at least one intermediate position. The tool has a J-slot mechanism operable between the actuator housing and the mandrel for shifting the actuator housing between the uphole, at least one intermediate, and downhole positions.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2016Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: Dreco Energy Services ULCInventor: Graham Styler

Patent number: 10323482Abstract: A flow-actuated pressure equalization valve, for use with a downhole tool such as a treatment tool, for use in stimulating a subterranean formation. The equalization valve allows the pressure of treatment fluid above and below an isolation device to be equalized so the treatment tool can be moved. The valve can be closed when fluid flow exceeds a certain threshold and the treatment tool is set in the wellbore. While running in or pulling out of hole, the valve will not close regardless of the rate of fluid flow. The valve can be opened by stopping fluid flow and then bleeding off pressure above the isolation device, or by pulling up on the treatment tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2015Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: DRECO ENERGY SERVICES ULCInventors: Graham Styler, Lewis Facca

Patent number: 10280707Abstract: A re-closable toe sleeve is disclosed where the toe sleeve has a port allowing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve. A burst disk is placed inside the port to prevent fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve. However upon the fluid in the interior of the toe sleeve reaching a predetermined level the burst disk is removed or otherwise modified to allow fluid access through the port. A sliding sleeve is placed within the toe sleeve so that the sliding sleeve can be moved to cover the port thereby preventing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve or the sliding sleeve may be moved to uncover the port thereby allowing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior the toe sleeve. The sliding sleeve is mechanically moved from the surface and is typically run into the well in the open position such that the port is uncovered by the sliding sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2015Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: Dreco Energy Services ULCInventors: Graham Styler, Gavin MacMillan
