  • Publication number: 20220167649
Abstract: The present invention provides a hydrocolloid-based thickener composition for the management of dysphagia with improved dispersibility in water or aqueous liquids to allow for ready hydration and solubilisation, and a process for preparing the same. More specifically, the present invention provides a process for preparing a readily dispersible hydrocolloid composition, the process comprising (a) providing a dry blend of xanthan gum, carboxymethyl cellulose and maltodextrin in the form of a powder; (b) contacting the dry blend of step (a) with a solution of a calcium salt to provide a first agglomerate; (c) contacting the first agglomerate of step (b) with a solution of maltodextrin to provide a second agglomerate; and (d) recovering the second agglomerate, and the composition obtained thereby.

  • Publication number: 20220160011
Abstract: The present invention provides a composition for providing thickness to foods and drinks and improving swallowability for foods and drinks. More specifically, the present invention is a composition comprising a first thickener and a second thickener for providing thickness to foods and drinks and improving swallowability for foods and drinks, wherein the first thickener shows pseudoplasticity at the shear rate from 1 to 100S?1, the second thickener shows Newtonian viscosity at the shear rate from 1 to 100S?1, and the thickeneing effect when the first and the second thickeners are used in combination in an equal amount is equal to or less than an additive level of the thickening effect when each were used alone.

  • Patent number: 9380803
Abstract: Xanthan gums with improved characteristics are provided, a method for preparing the xanthan gums as well as compositions and products comprising the xanthan gums. In particular, the invention relates to xanthan gums obtained from Xanthomonas campestris strains, pathovar cynarae CFBP 19, juglandis CFBP 176, pelargonii CFBP 64, phaseoli CFBP 412 or ATCC 17915, celebenois ATCC 19046, or corylina CFBP 1847 or from a derivative or progeny thereof and to methods of producing xanthan gum from these strains.

  • Publication number: 20150368545
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for recovering oil from a subterranean reservoir using waterflooding, wherein the flooding fluid used in the waterflooding process comprises water and a pyruvate-rich xanthan gum having at least 5 weight % pyruvate. The use of a pyruvate-rich xanthan gum is expected to increase the recovery of oil by improving both the oil/water mobility ratio and the sweep efficiency in reservoirs with a high degree of heterogeneity.

  • Patent number: 6602996
Abstract: The invention relates to a modified gellan gum in which the total acyl content as well as the ratio of acyl substituent groups to glycerate substituent groups per linear saccharide repeat unit is altered to be higher than 1. The invention further relates to a process for the modification of a gellan gum to alter its acyl content in which the gum is treated with a weak base such as sodium or potassium carbonate or a suitable phosphate. The process enables “tailor made” gums having appropriate setting temperatures and theological properties to be made. Novel compositions containing them are also claimed.
