  • Patent number: 7574855
Abstract: In a method for operating a gas turbine (11) in a combined cycle power plant (40), air is drawn in and compressed though the gas turbine (11), the compressed air is led to a combustor (18, 19) to burn a syngas recovered from a fossil fuel, especially coal, and the gases that result in the course of the combustion are expanded in a downstream turbine (16, 17). In such a method, an improved degree of efficiency is achieved by virtue of the fact that a gas turbine (11) with reheating is used, which includes two combustors (18, 19) and two turbines (16, 17); in the first combustor (18), syngas is burned with the compressed air, and the resultant hot gases, e.g., flue gases, are expanded in the first turbine (16), and in the second combustor syngas is burned by the gases coming from the first turbine (16), and the resultant hot gases are expanded in the second turbine (17).

  • Publication number: 20040100090
Abstract: A security device comprising a plurality of sets of nested line segments, each set comprising a plurality of line segments (52) which are specularly reflective or have a specularly reflective component formed as a relief structure in or on a surface, the sides (70) of the line segments extending at angles offset from the normal to the surface. When the line segments (52) are exposed to a light beam in an exposure direction, an image is generated different from the appearance of the line segments when viewed under different illumination conditions.

  • Patent number: 5933254
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a digital representation of an image. The apparatus includes a scanning device for scanning the image to generate digital data defining the colour content of pixels of the image. An input profile generator is provided for generating an input profile defining the NTF of the scanning device.

  • Patent number: 4989096
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a half-tone version of an image represented by a first set of digital data defining the colour content of abutting pixels of the image at a first resolution. The apparatus comprises a radiation beam generator (8); a recond medium support (11), wherein the radiation beam and the support are relatively moveable such that the radiation beam scans a record medium (10) mounted on the support in a series of abutting scan lines; a radiation beam modulator (7) for modulating the radiation beam in response to a control signal (CS); and a control signal generator (5) for generating the control signal. The radiation beam is modulated selectively to expose a record medium on the support (11) at a second, finer resolution, the control signal generator (5) being adapted to interpolate the second set of digital data from the first set of digital data and to generate the control signal by comparing the second set of digital data with half-tone information.

  • Patent number: 4768101
Abstract: A method of generating a half-tone representation of an image from digital data defining the color content of pixels arranged in a series of substantially parallel, overlapping input scan lines comprises exposing at least one record medium to an exposing beam in a series of substantially parallel, overlapping output scan lines each corresponding to a respective input scan line. The exposing beam is modulated under the control of the digital data and half-tone information. The intensity of the exposing beam, which typically includes a number of subsidiary beams, is such that an area of the record medium will only record a half-tone dot or a portion of a half-tone dot after all output scan lines passing through that area have been exposed.

  • Patent number: 4150437
Abstract: Attendance recording equipment for recording information relating to the attendance of a group of personnel. The equipment includes personnel identification recognition means for receiving a person's identification means in order to produce a signal associated with that person, and a data memory capable of storing information individually associated with each of the personnel. The data also stores information relating to the time of presentation of each identification means to the recognition means. Output means are provided to retrieve information from the data memory at any time during the operation of the equipment. The data memory includes a store for a time worked total for each of the personnel, and this total is periodically and regularly incremented while the person is present. When the identification of a person is presented to the recognition means a display is illuminated to indicate the variation between the number of hours worked by that person and a predetermined number of hours.
