Publication number: 20090287991Abstract: Methods, computer-executable instructions on computer-readable media, and systems for generating fusible signatures for information contained in two or more corpora of data. The fusible signatures can allow the information from the separate corpora of data to be merged, or fused, into a single information space that allows information analysts to explore, analyze, and/or further process the fused data. Prior to manipulation by the embodiments of the present invention, the information contained in at least one of the individual corpora of data is typically represented by initial signatures that are not directly fusible with information in the other corpora of data because of differences, for example, in dimensionality, source, data type, basis, and/or the space in which the initial signatures reside.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2008Publication date: November 19, 2009Inventors: Grant C. Nakamura, Shawn J. Bohn

Publication number: 20080109454Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention includes means determining a concept representation for a set of text documents based on partial order analysis and modifying this representation if it is determined to be unidentifiable. Furthermore, the embodiment includes means for labeling the representation, mapping documents to it to provide a corresponding document representation, generating a number of document signatures each of a different type, and performing several data processing applications each with a different one of the document signatures of differing types.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2006Publication date: May 8, 2008Inventors: Alan R. Willse, Elizabeth G. Hetzler, Lawrence L. Hope, Theodore E. Tanasse, Susan L. Havre, Alan E. Turner, Margaret MacGregor, Catherine Nancarrow, Grant C. Nakamura

Patent number: 6897866Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention begin with the generally known features of visualizing a relationship between at least two entities, by: (a) geometrically mapping the at least two entities onto a surface; (b) providing a relationship record for each of the at least two entities; (c) generating a display of the at least two entities together with at least one connector between the at least two entities as the visualizing the relationship from the relationship record; (d) the connector having two ends connected to a pair of the at least two entities, the connector having an extension between the two ends, the extension passing out of the plane. The present invention provides the improvement of: for at least one pair of entities, the at least one pair having a plurality of relationships, the connector having a plurality of strands wherein each of the plurality of strands corresponds to each of the plurality of relationships.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1999Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Elizabeth G. Patent number: 6665661Abstract: Methods and systems are provided that enable text in various sections of data records to be separately catalogued, indexed, or vectorized for analysis in a text visualization and mining system. A text processing system receives a plurality of data records, where each data record has one or a plurality of attribute fields associated with the records. The attributes fields containing textual information are identified. The specific textual content of each attribute field is identified. An index is generated that associates the textual content contained in each attribute field with the attribute field containing the textual content. The index is operable for use in text processing. The plurality of data records may be located in a data table and the textual information may be contained within cells of the data table. In another aspect, a plurality of data records is received, where at least some of the data records contain text terms.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2000Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Vernon L.
