  • Patent number: 11717646
Abstract: In various examples, a system includes a steerable medical device including a handle including a longitudinal axis. An elongate shaft extends distally from the handle. The elongate shaft includes a distal tip and a lumen through the elongate shaft. At least four pullwires are disposed within the handle and extending to and anchored proximate the distal tip of the elongate shaft. At least two actuators are associated with the handle. The at least two actuators are operably coupled to the at least four pullwires with actuation of the first actuator causing tension in the first or second pullwire to deflect the distal tip in a first or second tip direction, respectively, and actuation of the second actuator causing tension in the third or fourth pullwire to deflect the distal tip in a third or fourth tip direction, respectively.

  • Patent number: 9358039
Abstract: In various examples, an apparatus includes a needle assembly including an outer cannula including a tubular sidewall disposed around a lumen. At least a portion of the sidewall includes an exterior including a polymeric material configured to inhibit skiving of an interior of a dilator with movement of the outer cannula within the dilator. An inner cannula is disposed within the lumen and is selectively slidable with respect to the outer cannula. A handle is disposed at a proximal portion of the needle assembly. The handle includes a first handle portion coupled to and movable with the outer cannula. A second handle portion is coupled to and movable with the inner cannula, wherein the first handle portion is selectively movable with respect to the second handle portion to extend a distal end of the inner cannula from within the lumen of the outer cannula.

  • Patent number: 9149607
Abstract: A deflectable sheath for use in medical procedures in the vasculature is described. The sheath includes a handle supporting the sheath. Two pull wires run along opposite sides of the sheath to anchors at the deflectable distal end. The handle includes a rotatable member that moves a threaded slider block in a back and forth translational manner. As that translational movement occurs, force is applied to either one or the other of the pull wires to cause deflection of distal end of the sheath in either and upwardly or a downwardly direction with respect to the longitudinal axis of the sheath.

  • Publication number: 20090312698
Abstract: A deflectable sheath with increased range of curvature for human use is provided. The improvement focuses on the use of different durometer polymers that compose the lumen in the portion of deflection. The use of differing durometer polymers allow the deflectable sheath to be bent in a multitude of asymmetric curvature radii therefore providing the physician with a sheath that can traverse different regions of the body than with previous sheaths.
