    Abstract: A method of providing a purchaser with a confirmation of a transaction includes providing the purchaser with an electronic machine-readable image, such that the electronic image may be displayed on a screen of a portable or handheld electronic device to verify the transaction. The image may be any displayable and visually readable indicia. The system includes a transaction validation device for issuing the electronic machine-readable image in response to a financial transaction, a network interface means, and a portable or handheld electronic device for receiving the electronic machine-readable image for display on the screen of the portable or handheld electronic device to verify the transaction. The system also preferably includes an optical scanner for reading the barcode image from the display.
