Patent number: 10107058Abstract: A retrievable module assembly can be used to install and/or de-install a blowout preventer (BOP) module from a BOP subsea where the BOP comprises one or more corresponding BOP module receivers. The retrievable module assembly typically comprises a frame configured to house and support the subsea BOP module; and a modular storage unit disposed at least partially within the frame. The modular storage unit further comprises a storage area configured to removably accept the subsea BOP module; a rotator configured to attach to and rotate the subsea BOP module, the rotator disposed at least partially within the frame; a rotator mover, slidably mounted in the frame and operatively in communication with the rotator; and a power connector operatively connected to the rotator and rotator mover and configured to interface with a power source.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2013Date of Patent: October 23, 2018Assignee: OCEANEERING INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Mark L. Misuraca, William S. Averill, Simon Nockels, Nguyen Trinh, Greg Boyle, Robert A. Johnigan, Kinton Lowell Lawler, Nikunj M. Patel, Michael Forrest Brune, Michael S. Stonebraker

Patent number: 8684078Abstract: A system for attaining and maintaining a pre-determined fluid level in a petroleum-producing well having a pump, such as a progressive-cavity pump, and a pump motor having a variable-frequency drive control using two sensors: a pump pressure sensor located at the pump depth and a casing pressure sensor located at the casinghead of the well. A programmable computer is connected to the first and second pressure sensors and the motor speed control so that the programmable computer controls the operation of the pump motor to attain and maintain a target fluid level in the well over a predetermined time interval for reaching the target fluid level in the well. The programmable computer computes an error signal to control a variable frequency drive motor, where the error signal is computed periodically from the difference between in the actual fluid level in the well and the target fluid level in the well according to a rate reference curve.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2011Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Direct Drivehead, Inc.Inventors: Greg Boyles, Bob Snyder

Patent number: 8016027Abstract: An apparatus for rotating down hole pumps has a right angle gear box driving a hollow output shaft. The output shaft is oriented to the vertical and supports and rotates the drive string of a down hole rotary pump. A clamp on the drive string rests on the upper end of the hollow shaft and engages the hollow shaft with a key and keyway arrangement. The hollow shaft of the right angle gearbox is sized to accommodate the drive string, including rod boxes, so that the entire drive string can be pulled through the hollow shaft without dismantling or removing the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2008Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Direct Drivehead, Inc.Inventor: Greg Boyles

Patent number: 7044215Abstract: I disclose an apparatus for driving a submerged pump in a well, of the kind where the pump has a driving rod. A motor is connected to a double-reduction helical gear drive, and the gear drive has a threaded output shaft. The gear drive output shaft is removably connected to the pump driving rod. There is a back plate; the motor and gear drive are connected together to the back plate. The back plate has at least one slotted track for vertically adjusting the position of the motor and gear drive above the pump driving rod. The apparatus has a drive head housing attached to the well head. A pivot connects the drive head housing and the back plate, so that the motor and gear drive may be pivoted clear of the pump driving rod when the gear drive and pump rod are disconnected. A back plate rest connected to the drive head housing supports the back plate (and the motor and gear drive) when the motor and gear drive are pivoted clear of the pump driving rod.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2004Date of Patent: May 16, 2006Assignee: New Horizon Exploration, Inc.Inventor: Greg Boyles

Patent number: 4828804Abstract: A device for use in a swimming pool to prevent a floating chlorine feeder from spending an inordinate amount of time near a single location in a swimming pool due to water currents is disclosed which uses a tether to place the feeder in a central location in the swimming pool. A retainer is attachable to a floating feeder, and a retainer hook is attached to the edge of the pool furthest away from the location to which the feeder is drawn by water currents. A tether cord between the hook and the retainer keeps the feeder in the central location in the pool, where it is maintained by the currents in the pool.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1987Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Assignee: Aquaity, Inc.Inventors: Donald Nicholson, Robert Nordmyer, Greg Boyle
