  • Patent number: 8571753
Abstract: A power management system for a forestry machine includes a controller, a cutting tool, a cutting tool positioning system, a propulsion system, and a steering system. The power management system also includes an engine control module for calculating engine load. Based upon the calculated engine load, the controller automatically adjusts at least one of cutting tool speed, cutting tool positioning system power, and steering system power and adjusts the cutting tool speed toward a speed range defined by a first predetermined percentage above a standard set speed and a second predetermined percentage below the standard set speed.

Date of Patent: October 29, 2013
    Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products Inc.
Inventors: Jerome M. Robillard, Douglas W. Seeger, Greg D. Finnes
  • Patent number: 8523275
Abstract: A polycarbonate window system having an integrated ROPS that reduces the thickness of cab posts of machine such that the operator's visibility is increased. The polycarbonate window system also facilitates secure retention of the polycarbonate window without requiring holes to be formed near the periphery of the polycarbonate window, thereby increasing the structural integrity of the polycarbonate window.

Date of Patent: September 3, 2013
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Chad K. Jorgensen, Greg D. Finnes
  • Publication number: 20110257842
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a power management system for a forestry machine. The power management system improves the efficiency of the machine by automating control of the hydraulic systems of the machine. A controller receives a signal from a cutting tool speed sensor and can control the operation of the various pumps and motors on the machine.

  • Patent number: 7828328
Abstract: A headboard assembly connected to a machine frame includes a stationary gate that is pivotally connected to the frame and a moveable gate disposed in slidable engagement with the stationary gate. A linear actuator pivotally connects the moveable gate to the frame via first and second pin joints. The linear actuator selectively extends and retracts the moveable gate relative to the stationary gate when the headboard assembly is in an operating position. The linear actuator is further arranged to selectively tilt the headboard assembly relative to the frame when the headboard assembly is in a service position.
