    Abstract: This invention provides methods of determining the susceptibility to Parkinson's disease of a subject and of diagnosing Parkinson's disease in a subject which comprises detecting in a sample from the subject the presence of a composition of matter, which composition comprises a band having an apparent molecular weight of about 83 kilodaltons as determined by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, is capable of being specifically detected by an antibody directed to mitochondrial aconitase hydroxylase, and has greater electrophoretic mobility than the corresponding unaltered composition as determined by non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
