  • Patent number: 9505007
Abstract: A tub grinder includes a rotatable tub positioned above a floor; a grinder that has cutters defining a circular reducing boundary when the grinder is rotated in a reducing direction; and a deflection structure positioned near the floor above the grinder. The deflection structure includes first and second deflecting portions. The second deflection structure is oriented closer to horizontal than the first deflection structure. At least part of the second deflecting portion is located below a top, dead center of the reducing boundary of the grinder. The deflecting structure limits the trajectory of material ejected from the grinder to a departure angle of about 25 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20160341072
Abstract: A turbocharger (18) includes a shaft (20), a mixed flow turbine wheel (40) including a wheel hub (44) and blades having tips (42), and a heat shield (11). The heat shield (11) has a side wall, an end (19), and a contoured front edge (13) that connects the sidewall (16) and the end (19). The front edge (13) of the heat shield (11) defines a slope that forms an imaginary line that is angled relative to the sidewall (16) and the end (19), and intersects an axis of rotation of the shaft (20). The heat shield (11) resides at a position that is between a bearing housing (22) of the turbocharger (18) and the turbine wheel (40), and axially inward relative to an axially-facing surface of a turbine volute (24), and between the bearing housing (22) and the turbine wheel (40).

  • Publication number: 20160195006
Abstract: A variable turbine geometry turbine turbocharger (1) includes a vane ring assembly (29) configured to control flow of exhaust gas to a turbine wheel (12), and retainers (60, 160) that are used to secure the vane ring assembly (29) to the bearing housing (16) in a desired axial and radial position and angular orientation relative to the bearing housing (16). In some embodiments, the vane ring assembly (29) is spring biased toward an axially outward position relative to the bearing housing (16), and the retainers (60, 160) retain the vane (30) ring in the desired position against the spring bias.

  • Patent number: 9304937
Abstract: Atomic write operations for storage devices are implemented by maintaining the data that would be overwritten in the cache until the write operation completes. After the write operation completes, including generating any related metadata, a checkpoint is created. After the checkpoint is created, the old data is discarded and the new data becomes the current data for the affected storage locations. If an interruption occurs prior to the creation of the checkpoint, the old data is recovered and any new is discarded. If an interruption occurs after the creation of the checkpoint, any remaining old data is discarded and the new data becomes the current data. Write logs that indicate the locations affected by in progress write operation are used in some implementations. If neither all of the new data nor all of the old data is recoverable, a predetermined pattern can be written into the affected locations.

  • Publication number: 20160033987
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that may use GPS, barcodes, RF signals, or other electronic technologies, individually or in combination, to identify a location of a substation at which a switching operation is to occur. At the substation location, a device camera or other optical or radio frequency reading apparatus may be used to scan a barcode or other visible indicia to confirm that the correct device or component is being switched before progressing to the next step in the switching order. RF identification, magnetic striping, and other technologies may also be used.

  • Patent number: 8862264
Abstract: In a supplying system using containers for supplying groups of filter elements to smoking article assembling equipment, each container has a unique source of information that travels with the container. An unloader receives and unloads the containers. An automated data reader is proximate the unloader for reading the source of information for each container before it is unloaded. A computerized controller uses the information read by the automated data reader to obtain information from a database. The information from the database is compared to information from another source to verify that the proper filter elements are being supplied. The computerized controller allows, or instructs, the unloader to unload correctly supplied filter elements, and stops the unloader from unloading incorrectly supplied filter elements.
