  • Publication number: 20150143351
Abstract: A technique for streaming from a media device involves enabling a local device to function as a streaming server. An example of a method according to the technique includes inserting a removable storage device that includes programs associated with a streaming application, running one or more of the programs, ensuring that a streaming software player is installed, and executing a streaming-related activity associated with the streaming application. An example of a system according to the technique includes a means for providing a streaming application that expects content to be found on a media drive, a means for intercepting requests for content expected to be found on the media drive, and a means for honoring the requests with content from a different media location.

  • Patent number: 8121977
Abstract: Ensuring data persistence and consistency in enterprise storage backup systems method and apparatus are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes creating a data log structure (e.g., a log file) on a storage device (e.g., a Serial ATA drive, a SCSI drive, a SAS drive, a storage are network, etc.) coupled to an application server to store a backup data generated by a filter module in a continuous backup environment and buffering the backup data generated by the filter module through a memory module that transfers the backup data to the data log structure on the storage device based on an occurrence of an event. The data log structure may be created by configuring a portion of the storage device as a dedicated resource available to the memory module to copy the backup data and the data log structure may be a file on the storage device coupled to the application server having the file system.

  • Publication number: 20060168294
Abstract: A technique for streaming from a local device and a remote device involves providing a subset of data associated with a streaming application to a local device. An example of a method according to the technique includes running a streaming software player, accessing data from a local storage device necessary to stream a software application, and accessing data from a remote location necessary to stream the software application using the streaming software player. An example of a system according to the technique may include, by way of example but not limitation, a means for streaming a first subset of content associated with a streaming application from a streaming server, a means for streaming a second subset of content associated with the streaming application from a local source, and a means for periodically querying the streaming server, wherein the periodic querying informs the streaming server that the streaming application is running.

  • Publication number: 20060048136
Abstract: A technique for resource detection involves running an application installer associated with an application and intercepting calls made by the application installer. A system constructed according to the technique can infer what resources are required by the application from the intercepted calls. The system may generate streaming files to facilitate streaming the application associated with the installer to a remote location.
