  • Patent number: 6578867
Abstract: An expansible enclosure adapted for storage across the flooring surface of a transportation vehicle beneath the foot of an occupant. The enclosure is expansible away from the underlying flooring surface and generally towards the foot of the occupant so as to engage the foot during a deceleration event thereby providing prolonged supporting contact to the foot during the deceleration event.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 2001
Date of Patent: June 17, 2003
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Bassam Georges Khoudari, Chantal S. Parenteau, Devadoss Katta, Gregg G Anderson
  • Patent number: 6508486
Abstract: A door mounted side restraint system is provided. The door mounted side restraint system includes an air bag module and a retention mechanism. The air bag module includes an inflatable cushion and an inflator in fluid communication with the inflatable cushion. The inflator is activatable to inflate the inflatable cushion. The retention mechanism includes a retention strap and a tensioning device. The retention strap is connected to the inflatable cushion and is deployable across a side window of a vehicle such that a tarp-like effect is provided to the inflatable cushion by the retention strap.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 2001
Date of Patent: January 21, 2003
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Jeffrey A. Welch, Douglas S. Weston, Madana M. Gopal, Gregg G. Anderson

  • Publication number: 20020089152
Abstract: An inflatable air bag cushion for impact protection across a forward portion of a vehicle framework. The air bag cushion includes a first inflatable chamber of substantially wedge-shaped geometry deployable from a storage position along the “A” pillar of a vehicle in a plane substantially parallel to the side of the vehicle and a second inflatable chamber in fluid communication with the first inflatable chamber deployable in covering relation over the forward roof rail extending toward the occupant to be protected in a plane intersecting the plane of coverage established by the first inflatable chamber.

  • Publication number: 20020070537
Abstract: A tensioning system which provides continuous tensioning to an inflatable curtain air bag during deployment of the curtain air bag. A dynamic tethering element is utilized which travels in conjunction with the downward deployment of the inflatable curtain air bag so as to both tension the curtain air bag while at the same time providing a guiding action so as to bring the curtain air bag into the proper position at which it is thereafter maintained.
