  • Patent number: 11906043
Abstract: A kit for modifying a transmission input housing includes an overrun piston sleeve positioned on an outer surface of an input housing inner stepped portion, an overrun piston configured to mate with the overrun piston sleeve, and a replacement forward piston housing. An inner diameter of the overrun piston is larger than an inner diameter of an OE overrun piston. A forward piston sleeve is positioned on the outer surface of the input housing inner stepped conical portion adjacent the overrun sleeve. A forward piston mates with the forward piston sleeve. The forward piston has an inner diameter that is larger than an inner diameter of an OE forward piston. Seals are positioned between the forward piston and the forward piston sleeve and between the overrun piston and the forward piston at an outer diameter of the overrun piston.

  • Publication number: 20240026936
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses can be used to adjust the torque transfer capacity and improve the overall performance and longevity of a clutch assembly. Through the use of various improved clutch components disclosed herein, it is possible to: (1) increase clutch apply forces through an increase in the fluid pressure apply surface area, or piston reaction area, of a clutch piston, thereby increasing frictional forces generated within a clutch pack for transferring input torque from a drive shaft to a driven shaft; (2) improve clutch plate contact conditions through a more rigid clutch pressure plate configuration, thereby reducing clutch pack/plate distortion and supporting structure deformation and/or wear that can otherwise lead to excessive heat generation and overall clutch performance degradation and/or failure; and/or (3) improve the clutch assembly's ability to dissipate and/or tolerate heat generated through clutch plate friction by means of an improved clutch pack configuration.

  • Patent number: 10794472
Abstract: Methods of modifying a OE prior art transmission, including Ford's AOD, AODE and 4R70W transmissions, to strengthen the transmission by replacing components known to fail. In one example, the intermediate shaft and direct clutch cylinder of an OE transmission are replaced to eliminate the splined connection joining the two components, to simultaneously eliminate the weak splined connection while also making space within the transmission available for an increased diameter shaft. Aspects of the present disclosure also include kits for increasing the strength of a transmission and methods of assembling a transmission.

  • Patent number: 10253827
Abstract: A piston apply ring for providing a more uniform load distribution from an apply piston to clutch plates in a clutch apply piston assembly, effectively increasing the lifetime of various components of the clutch apply piston assembly, is disclosed. An L-shaped cross-sectional shape of the piston apply ring helps locate the apply ring on the clutch apply piston and prevents torsional movement between the apply ring and the apply piston. Various alternative embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10072683
Abstract: In an automotive automatic transmission, a force applying piston mounted on a servo pin is supported at both sides of the piston. A first end of the servo pin is conventionally supported in a servo pin bore. A second, extended end is supported in a specially configured support bore formed in the assembly cover. Excentric loading and excessive wear of the servo pin and servo pin bore, which can result in damage to the piston, is reduced or eliminated thereby.

  • Patent number: 9574653
Abstract: Systems and methods for stabilizing the ring gear in a Powerglide transmission are disclosed. Systems may include a radial stabilization member mountable to the planet carrier and individual bearing members mountable to an inner surface of the ring gear in opposition to the radial stabilization member. Axial stabilization may also be provided by an axial stabilization member configured and dimensioned to be positioned between the ring gear mid-step and reverse clutch pack apply plate. Methods include mounting the radial stabilization member on the planet carrier using attachment means and securing the bearing members to the inner surface of the ring gear in a spaced relationship.
