  • Publication number: 20210023639
Abstract: A method is disclosed. The method includes disposing an automated welding device adjacent to a pipe joint and welding an open root pass via the automated welding device using the predefined welding process, wherein the predefined welding process is configured to control a welding arc in response to a short circuit condition. A secondary welding process can be overlaid on the predefined welding process by cycling welding parameter of the predefined welding process can be cycled between a high parameter value and a low parameter value about a base parameter value. Further, an arc between the automated welding device and the pipe joint can be maintained during welding. Because the welding parameter is cycled between a high and low parameter value, the automated welding device can deliver consistent successful welds.

  • Patent number: 10556271
Abstract: A jig and tool are provided for rotating the tool around a pipe or pipeline, for truing the pipe end. An operator can easily installation the jig into the pipe end, with or without the cutting tool installed thereto. The tool can be manually or motor driven for rotation about the jig and the pipe end. The attachment of the tool to the jig enables alignment of the tool's cutting face with the pipe end, with angular and axial adjustment available for obtaining a profile suitable for welding to like pipe ends. In an embodiment, the tool can track the pipe diameter to retain alignment despite out-of-round dimensional variation. The tool is operated and rotated about the pipe end to remove material and, as necessary, the tool is adjusted into the pipe end and the rotation about the pipe end is repeated for incremental removal of material therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20200016699
Abstract: A welding jig or gap tool and a method of operation is provided for welding management of the V-joint between facing pipe ends. One or more gap tools are distributed about the V-joint and actuated to maintain a welding gap along the V-joint during welding. The tool has a base portion removeably arranged between an alignment clamp and the pipe end. When actuated the gap tool bears against the alignment clamp and a cone is driven into the V-joint to establish and to maintain the gap between pipe ends.
