  • Patent number: 5244931
Abstract: The invention relates to low density cellular, rigid polyurethanes which employ the dimethyl esters of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids and mixtures thereof in conjunction with nonylphenol as cell-opening agents. The use of this ester phenol mixture obviates the need of other surfactants, particularly silicone surfactants which reduce the adhesion of the urethanes to fabrics in pour-behind-fabric applications.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 25, 1992
Date of Patent: September 14, 1993
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
    Inventor: Gregg S. Kuyzin
  • Patent number: 5204170
Abstract: A high density structural reaction injection molded (SRIM) composite having a fabric comprised of nonwoven spunbonded fibers made of a polyester core sheathed in a polyamide skin, is embedded in a polyurethane matrix, providing a part having a blister free surface upon baking in a paint oven. A baked part having a near Class A or Class A surface finish can be attained by adding a show surface veil made of a soft nonwoven polyester fiber mat to the polyurethane matrix over the nonwoven spun bonded fabric. These parts have structural applications which require high strength and good surface finishes, such as in automotive exterior panels.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 1, 1991
Date of Patent: April 20, 1993
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
    Inventor: Gregg S. Kuyzin
  • Patent number: 5130175
Abstract: Low and high density structural RIM compositions are disclosed which have low viscosities. These compositions contain a resin "B-side" component which comprises a hydroxyl-functional tertiary amine polyol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 3, 1991
Date of Patent: July 14, 1992
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Gregg S. Kuyzin, John R. Stoll
