  • Publication number: 20070026788
Abstract: An air plenum includes a main body that is sized to enclose at least a portion of a device. The main body extends a distance beyond a port provided on the device and also defines an opening therein that is substantially aligned with the port provided on the device. A cover sized to substantially cover the opening in the main body includes a recessed portion that is inset with respect to a non-recessed portion of the cover by a distance that is about equal to the distance by which the main body extends beyond the port provided on the device. The recessed portion defines an opening therein that is substantially aligned with the port so that the recessed portion in the cover allows a user to access the port on the device.

  • Publication number: 20070019318
Abstract: Data transfer apparatus may include a housing substantially conforming to a dimensional standard for a specified type of data cartridge. A reader mounted to the housing interrogates and receives data from a memory system provided on a data cartridge when the data transfer apparatus is positioned adjacent the data cartridge. A data transmission system mounted to the housing and operatively associated with the reader transfers data received by the reader to a data receiving system external to the data transfer apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20060090176
Abstract: In one embodiment, a cartridge identification system includes a cartridge type detection station in which a cartridge can be inserted, and apparatus that determines the extent to which the cartridge protrudes from the detection station, the extent of protrusion being indicative of the cartridge type.

  • Publication number: 20050286161
Abstract: A storage system includes at least one storage medium having a label, the label having a width extending along a first axis. The tape storage system further includes a reader to read the label based on light scanned across the label, where the reader has a light sensing portion extending along a second axis that is inclined with respect to the first axis.

  • Publication number: 20050207107
Abstract: Electrical-optical signal conversion for an automated storage system. In an exemplary implementation, an automated storage system comprises a plurality of storage cells for removable hard disk drives and a backplane including at least one electrical connection to connect the removable hard disk drives to the backplane. Transfer robotics are operable to access the removable hard disk drives in the storage cells and electrically connect the removable hard disk drives to the backplane via the at least one electrical connection. A backplane interface is operable to convert electrical data signals from the removable hard disk drives electrically connected at the backplane to optical signals for delivery to a system controller.

  • Publication number: 20050174742
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems and/or methods including a data apparatus and/or system having: an open-backed housing with a front wall, and first and second side walls; and an open-backed portion defined between the first and second side walls; whereby the open-backed portion is disposed to interchangeably receive any of a plurality of discrete, similarly-sized modules therein.

  • Publication number: 20050105208
Abstract: Media selection systems and methods. A media selection system may comprise a coupler mounted on a plunge assembly of a cartridge retrieving device. The coupler slidably engages a storage medium as the cartridge retrieving device moves relative to the storage medium. A method may comprise slidably engaging a storage medium with a cartridge retrieving device as the cartridge retrieving device moves relative to the storage medium.

  • Publication number: 20050085942
Abstract: Inventory control devices and methods for controlling the inventory of a data storage system are disclosed. In one embodiment, the inventory control device comprises a latch positioned in relation to an access device of a data storage system so that opening the access device causes the latch to move from a first position to a second position, a sensor to sense a latch state indicating the position of the latch, and control logic communicatively coupled to the sensor to cause the data storage system to inventory one or more storage locations associated with the access device if the sensor indicates the latch is in the second position and to cause the data storage system to not inventory the one or more storage locations if the sensor indicates the latch is in the first position.
