The control cells use a high-frequency clock to perform high-speed switching and a low-frequency clock in order to initiate a switching sequence. The low-frequency clock initiates the sequence at a time coordinated with other crossbars in the system to optimize scheduling. In another aspect, the control cells include a memory containing control bits for the switching matrix. The memory may be reconfigured without stopping traffic management through the crossbar switch. In yet another aspect, the high-frequency sequence may provide for the ability to loop.
