  • Patent number: 10480080
Abstract: A method of activating a metal surface, such as a galvanized steel sheet, before a phosphating process, may involve bringing the metal surface into contact with an activating bath containing activating particles, which may be based on phosphate and/or titanium, dispersed in water. To alleviate or even eliminate the problems of poor adhesion of surface coatings to preferably electrolytically galvanized, phosphated metal strip, an additive that suppresses or at least slows agglomeration of the activating particles may be added to the activating bath. In some examples, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and/or sodium stearate may be added. Further, the particle size distribution of the activating particles present in the activating bath may be determined and the activating bath may be replaced or taken out of operation as a function of the particle size distribution of the activating particles.

  • Publication number: 20190178202
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine including an outer part and an inner part. The outer part includes a ring groove region and a piston skirt. The inner part includes a piston boss and pin bores. The inner part is inserted into the outer part and engages the outer part at a joint in at least one vertically-oriented plane. The inner part and the outer part are non-detachably joined at the joint forming a one-piece piston.

  • Publication number: 20190022739
Abstract: A method for producing a cooling duct piston for an internal combustion engine having a cooling duct in its piston crown. A piston main body is produced with a collar which is circumferential and projects radially in the region of the piston crown. The collar is formed until its outer circumferential edge comes very closely or completely into contact with a bearing region of the piston lower part forming the cooling duct. At least one ring groove is introduced. A ring-free groove is further formed below the ring groove, wherein a dividing plane lies between the outer circumferential edge of the formed collar and an upper side of the piston lower part in the ring-free groove.

  • Publication number: 20180326477
Abstract: Method for producing a piston having a cooling channel produced by a lost core casting process. A lost core extends into a casting mold which forms the inner region of the piston blank. The lost core is used to form at least one opening having a rounded profile in communication with the cooling channel. A jet splitter may be formed in the cooling duct to divert injected cooling oil into the cooling duct.
